Hello from the UK!
« on: Sat, 10 October 2020, 16:22:11 »
Hey everyone, I'm Louis, or usually some variation of Peath online.
I'm a second year Photography student from Wales (Cymru am byth!) and a bit of a gearhead when it comes to electronics. I'm glad to be falling down this rabbit hole with the lot of you!

Been interested in the hobby for about 6 months now after watching some streamers and YouTubers make their own boards, and finally slipped down the rabbit hole this September as I moved away to Uni.

Browsing a bunch of keyboard forums for months has been really eye opening and interesting, and I'm constantly finding new projects that I'm interested in and changing my tastes. Think my keyboard spending is well over a grand now (yay student loans!) so I'm making an effort to slow down and save up for Christmas, otherwise I'll end up bankrupting myself with a Model F Battleship.

After having a Corsair Strafe for years, I decided that I wanted to branch out into different types of boards, and bought a hot-swap Keychron K6 that came with Gat Browns initially. I absolutely hated those and I'm currently sporting some Milky Gat Yellows that I need to get around to modding, and a KBD75v2 to build.

Currently on the way I have a SwitchCouture Alice and Mysterium, and 3 vintage keyboards with Alps White, Vint Blacks and a mystery Magitronic branded KB-6251 that I can't find any information on. Not to mention an Amelie at some point next year, plus a bunch of keycaps.

Currently I'm super interested in the KBDFans Epoch and the Type-K, as well as, one day, a Model F Battleship, so I can't wait to lose more money in the future.

So yeah, that's me. Cheers for reading!

Bore da! Sut wyt ti?

Just so everyone else can understand; welcome, buddy! It's nice to finally see another Welsh person around here! I'm a research student currently stuck in the Valleys (originally from Cardiff). Whilst I'm not hugely interested in modern stuff beyond Kailh BOX, I can safely say your wallet/purse will indeed have "fun" with purchasing an F122 and any more vintage Alps stuff. I've been in this hobby for just over a year and the vintage IBM gear in particular has indeed taken its toll, but I've had immense fun doing so!

Cheers for the welcome! Prynhawn da! My Welsh is a bit rusty, not much interest learning or teaching it in Monmouthshire, but lled dda, diolch, a ti? Seems the UK community as a whole is fairly small, so I can't imagine there are many Welsh people at all on here!

Luckily the vintage boards I got were fairly cheap, it was the shipping from the US that killed me. Just having a quick look on Ebay tells me I can't get a blue alps or model F for under £200, or a working battleship for under £400, so those are looooong term, but there seems to be a decent amount of white alps boards around. Vintage IBM stuff is real nice but damn does it put a hole in your wallet!
