KBD75 bad USB-C port & other PCB issues
« on: Tue, 26 January 2021, 13:11:52 »
I recently purchased the KBD75 V2 USB-C PCB from KBDfans, and am having a whole host of strange issues.

I assembled the keyboard, all solder points are clean and proper.
The keyboard randomly seems to start rapidly / continuously press the windows key, causing all keys to become shortcuts. I noticed this also happening with the G key as well. I have noticed that the USB-C port is having an issue where if I move the cable at the port it looses connection, and it does this with multiple different USB-C cables, so I know it is not the cable itself. I checked the solder points on the USB-C port and they all appear to be good, and the cable clicks into place nicely in the port, however I can hear a rattle inside the port when I move the cable around at the connection point, leading me to believe that the connection between the cable and port is problematic. The random key pressing has been an issue since the beginning, however the USB-C port issue seems to be new and getting worse.

(INB4 I have already tried reflasing the firmware)

My guess at this point is that the issue may be coming from the bad USB-C port.
I am wondering if there is a way of addressing this issue without having to replace the port, as that would require desoldering of all the key switches, and wait time for a new port.

Thanks

The port is unlikely to be causing the stuck key, that would usually be a short in the switch matrix which could include a sticky switch.  A short usually affects the whole row or column or at least some keys in a row so just win and G is strange.  If you have spare switches I'd swap them out and see if it works better.

The rattly port sounds like the plastic bit in the middle that holds the contacts is snapped while the metal around the edge still clips onto the cable connector.  You could poke it with a screwdriver or something to confirm it moves but that will probably damage it further so be very gentle.
