So yeah, I opened up my KB-5181 to clean it. It was pretty dirty, lot of dirt and some dead ants, but not the worst I'd seen. That housing is a ***** to take apart and put back together btw.

But the upper and lower housings both say "Finished in 81 6 30".

This keyboard was made in 1981!? Is that right?

Nope. That layout didn't exist back then, neither did the switches that the Chicony uses.

Dates dont always mean dates... Model F/M internals usually have "Shop Dates" which are a meaningless assortment of numbers.

Most likely Minguo (Taiwan  R.O.C )calender .
Plus 11 to the year and you'll get 1992.
