G'day Mates!

I found this most excellent forum whilst searching for info on mechanical Chicony keyboards (brings back lovely clicky memories...)
Then I found a NEC APC-H4100E keyboard at the tip recycling shop for the princely sum of AUD2! I could post pictures if people are interested.

My significant other thinks that I'm a bit odd, with the whole mechanical keyswitch thing and the search for more at all the local charity/secondhand/pawn shops...

Bah, maybe I am, but now I'm amongst fellow worshippers of the click.

hmmm... maybe switchularis is more apropos...

hotel keyboardia, there IBM stood in the doorway, this could be heaven or this could be hell...

We'll be ready when the zombies come. 5 pound high quality keyboard vs zombie head, no contest.

This may be overkill, but here is a couple of pictures: (GIMP cropped)

1 left arrow keycap removed, with a ruler in inches



2 left arrow keycap removed, with ruler in cm


3 left arrow keycap from side with ruler in cm (somewhat blurry, n900's owner (me) doesn't do macro well)


4 left arrow switch, blue, NEC embossed on the switch body, ruler in inches


5 left arrow switch from the top with ruler in inches. The brown stuff isn't cruft, it's actually a bit of rust, I  suspect that the keyboard comes from a troubled home...


6 label on the back on the beast, you can stab it with your steely knives, but you just can't kill the beast


7 glamour shot, messy table and other ****e... (yep, xp pro sp3)
 


The NEC is quite yellowed, and I plan to treat it with the mix discussed at http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/


I shall try to keep the forum up to date with the cleaning.

That's funny, you have one of those linksys routers I was talking about.

Well asides from everything else, that keyboard could use some minor cleaning (to remove the flaky scum embedded betwixt the keys) and retrobright; unless you like the yellowing beige vintage look.

I wonder if it's like tarnished silver antiques. When you remove the tarnish from expensive silver antiques, they lose their value. Maybe if you remove that vintage yellowing, in 80 years, it won't be worth as much!

That just cleans the grime off, not the yellowing ;)
