Well, there's a *few* other people watching, but for other reasons:

Check out the human tennis ball head:

Tennis to me is boring, unless you're the one actually playing it.

EDIT: woah! Check out the monstro gut behind the tennis ball head man!

omg human tennis ball.  Dude needs a girlfriend.

hope its nadal and federer in the final. I have a feeling nadal will overpower federer again. Federer is a great dancer but nadal is a boxer and, well, that doesnt bode well for the dancer.

Uh oh, Nadal is using satanic-enhancing performance pills!

been watching games live on the usopen.org website. Really good HD quality streaming. Too bad they wont let you watch past games though (only live ones).  It seems nearly impossible to find an archive of past games except bits and pieces on youtube.

what is this strange salute youzhny does after every match?

he's pretty good, i'd never heard of him before. Watched his match with Isner. Looks like he made it to the quarterfinals.

It's overblown patriotism. "Russia is the best, glory to the motherland, crappy communism is better than american capitalism" etc...
Although the States is in a bad decline... the East will eventually become more powerful: they have more people and land anyhow.

I don't know why everyone has to be so one-sided though; there is no "the best," it's all relative.

See which direction he salutes, is it pointing to Russia? I wouldn't be surprised.

In other words, he's basically saying "Russia is winner".

interesting. yea he salutes four times actually, in four directions, presumably saluting the audience.

youzhny in semi-finals.  Btw here's some info on the origin of his salute:

Quote

But Youzhny eventually quashed those plans, proving fresher and more accurate down the stretch to win, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, with Wawrinka destroying one of his rackets in frustration deep in the fifth set.

Youzhny has escaped from more compromising situations in the past, starting at the beginning. In 2002, in the Davis Cup final against France in Paris, his captain, Shamil Tarpischev, called on him to replace the struggling Yevgeni Kafelnikov in the fifth and final match.

Just 20 then, Youzhny rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Paul-Henri Mathieu and secure the Cup for the first time for Russia, with Boris Yeltsin, the former Russian president, celebrating in the stands. There would be quite a celebration in Paris and back in Moscow, but Youzhny’s emotions were mixed, because his father, Mikhail, had died suddenly just a few months earlier.

Eight years later, Youzhny is a father himself, but he still commemorates victories with a salute to all four sides of a stadium with his tennis racket resting on his head. It is hardly as classic a gesture as Andre Agassi’s blown kisses and bows, but it still means plenty to Youzhny, whose father was in the military.

“It’s my way of dedicating my victories to my father,” he said.

with youzhny's win, down to 4 now. looks like youzhny and djokovic are the potential spoilers of the dream-final.

was a really amazing semifinal b/w federer and djokovic.  very intense, very exciting. havent seen such an entertaining match in quite a while.

fed had 2 match points, but too many unforced errors and didnt charge the net often enough it seemed.  I dont like djokovic but have to give credit for fearless play in clutch points. He just wanted it more today.

so nadal and djokovic in the final.  I have to give it to nadal in 5 sets. I think it'll go five just because of how badly djokovic seems to want this.

^---ugh, guys tennis? tennis should really only have women play, the only thing men should be doing in tennis is being ball boy or something. But then of course that would disqualify the williams sisters from playing... cuz i know i'm not the only who says they are not women! dear lord look at them!

Nadal vs Djokovic
« Reply #15 on: Tue, 14 September 2010, 02:28:11 »
Congrats to Nadal!
That game with Djokovic was really entertaining. =)
I must admit I was rooting more for Nadal because you can sense his determination and I kinda don't like seeing players getting overly upset. So after the second outburst early in the game with the beating of a racquet into what looked like a spent toothpick I kinda lost the WoooHoo for Djokovic.

I really had hoped it would be Federer in the final game with Nadal, because I find it really entertaining to see Federer play those calm and clever shots. But Honestly in this tournament I think this was probably the best outcome with an almost absurd amount of dizzying back and fourth play with delightful volleys!

I also got to watch it in HD on a slightly larger display and it was wonderful to see a truly impressive game in such rich clarity!

They mentioned and had shown the 3D cameras at the match covering the event. So I couldn't help but wonder how barftastic that would actually be. But I don't think I could handle that =P
