New Shark's Wiki page - IBM Model M Enhanced Keyboard!
« on: Mon, 21 February 2022, 12:46:48 »
I just finished writing and illustrating the bulk of my IBM Enhanced Keyboard (the standard 101-105 key Model M) wiki page! There are still a few variants to cover, but basically, all the common ones are present (plus, a unique and whacky Unicomp that supports a phone line at the end!)

Included are details on their history, their pricing over time, their design features, possible branding, connectivity and variants! Lexmark Classic, Unicomp Customizer and Unicomp Classic keyboards are also covered.

I have no idea when I'll put in the time to read all of that, but thanks for compiling it.  :thumb:

It will be a great companion to your eventual IBM museum.

Dude, what a fine job. You've obviously put a ton of time into that piece. I enjoyed reading the whole thing (though one of my credit cards expired, and I can hardly see what I'm typing as my hair has grown down over my face).

If I could make one suggestion, it'd be to break it up into separate pages, rather than putting everything on one e-x-t-r-a  l-o-n-g page. Scrolling through something like that is a killer, and rather '90s, y'know? Maybe add a menu at the left, with links to each section? Just saying.

Also, you mention a whole bunch of third-party Model M's, but nothing on the mysterious Wang variant (p/n 1397721), most of which were reportedly destroyed for some reason...? Know anything more about those? They're in Wikipedia's variant list, and there are, like, two other mentions of them on the whole Interweb (including one on Deskthority—but none here on GH, as far as I can tell; this post may be the first).

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the suggestion! Indeed, navigation is a challenge. I'll look into a docked section menu (that morphs into a pop-out menu on mobile). Separating sections onto individual pages would be ideal, but I have some SEO concerns with that. I'll see what I can come up with.

I'm aware of them, but I don't have much to add to the existing conversion. As for their inclusion in the variations list; I'm waiting to get original photos or find photos with CC licenses or in public domain (etc.) that I can use. The "There are still a few variants to cover..." was intended to be inclusive of stuff like this, as well as a few other variants like the CompuAdd Enhanced Keyboard with BAE enter.

I'm glad you enjoyed the page!

Maybe add a menu at the left, with links to each section? Just saying.

Now implemented! It's presently available when viewing on a screen with 1280px+ width, and will appear once you've started to scroll approximately a screen's height worth of content (ie, once you're likely past the default contents menu). Will work on a mobile and tablet solution at a later date.

I’m sure you’ll figure it out. The important thing is to get all the content together first, anyway, right?

Or you could ask me—I have one.  ;D Feel free to PM me.

I still have several oddball Model M's that aren't on Wikipedia's p/n list. I just haven't had time to add them. I thought it'd be fun to post a thread here about my various lesser-seen BS boards—if you think anyone would be interested, in these wild days of artisan caps, RGB keyboards, PC cases with fog machines and strobe lights, etc.  :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the page!

Man, what's not to like? Keep up the nice work. There's nothing like sharing one's passion with the world.  :thumb:

You have Models M that Shark doesn't have?

How is this even possible? That's going to tear a rift in time and space.

I know I would like to see them, if you started a thread.
