HHKB Pro 2 Issue
« on: Sat, 07 December 2019, 20:52:42 »
I've had an HHKB pro 2 for about a year now and I've never had any problems with it until recently. Sometimes, out of the blue, the keyboard will do a number of weird things such as (1) continuously type one letter on and on without any user input (usually the '2' key) or (2) randomly insert a string of letters in the middle of me typing something, or (3) certain keys will just stop working while all other keys work normally (usually the a, s, c, and v keys stop working). The only way to solve these problems when they arise is to unplug the board and flick the dip switches a couple of times, and that seems to "reset" the board and it functions normally once again. It seems that I can't even get through an hour or two of typing before issues like these arise. Has anyone experienced anything like this before with their HHKB? Or any ideas on what I could do to fix this?

This is actually pretty funny to stumble upon because this literally just happened to me after whipping it out to type on for fun (do a typing test and what not) and it got stuck doing "ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" until I hit another button.

I was actually gifted it about a month ago but it was already second hand, so I don't know how long it was used before me. Was able to play League on it perfectly fine for a few hours the first time I really used it for a long session. This was the first time it happened to me and I'm not a frequent over here, so it was a funny coincidence that I just so happened to take a look here for HHKB styled boards to show a friend and find this thread instead. Cheers bud, and hope you find a real solution soon.

edit: Just double checked. Mine's a pro bluetooth "BT" version. So it's not just your model that has this issue apparently.

One of the keys getting stuck as you mention was actually one of the first "symptoms" I noticed and then after a few weeks it got worse and all these new problems started showing up! So lets hope for the best, but your keyboard might just end up doing exactly what mine is doing in a couple of weeks LOL. But I've read on here about some mods where you can replace the entire controller (like Hasu controller) inside the board so if this is some kind of an issue with the controller then maybe replacing it would help? I honestly have no idea though, and I hope someone here can at least help us figure out which part of the board is faulty so we can fix/replace that as opposed to shelling out $300 for a new one. Cheers!

Update: I found a solution!!

Turns out that the cable connecting the controller to the PCB was loose. All I did was push the cable in to make the connection firm again. Hope this helps someone :)

OMGGGGGG I have no idea if you are active still but thank you SO MUCH! I tried so many options and couldn’t figure out what was going on with my hhkb pro 1. Hours spent. Then I tried to take it apart and reconnect the connector. WORKS! Dang should’ve did it first. But my windows has been acting up so thought it was the windows update. Thanks a ton!
