What the F@$# is this?!
« on: Thu, 07 October 2010, 07:02:18 »
A challenger appears. Here we have a yet unseen(?) switch type. It arrived at my house this morning. When I was unpacking the board and pushing the first few keys I was like "oh... thats too weak for Cherry Black... hmm maybe ALPS green??"

But then... there was this.

Normal switches

Switch + Stabilizer Dummy + Stabilizer Bar

Dyesub, *****es

Detail

Pretty high quality, apparently made in SWEDEN in 1992.

So, help me out swedes! What is this switch?!

Yep, each switch has a Diode. I'm assuming there is full n-key rollover. However, I have no way of testing this since it uses some obscure 5 pin Terminal connector and most likely is not PC compatible. I might mod it to USB later.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeenteresting.  Have you found anything about the switches yet?

How are they?  You said they're linear, are they as smooth as cherry blacks?  Do they bind up if you press off center?

I like to diodes!  NKRO on the old stuff seems to be more common than on the new.

Damn cost-cutting BS.

Nothing new on them yet. Asked both of the big Korean boards too, no one has any idea either yet. Maybe Sandy will come jumping out of nowhere and reveal this switch.

The switches feel like Cherry blacks with a little less required force, maybe this is what Reds are like. They also travel a tiny bit less than MX switches, so the ending is not as smooth. Overall they feel nice though.

Very nice!

And yes, I'm sure Sandy will appear from the shadows to school us all.

This is definitely interesting enough!

Looks like it would act/feel like a Cherry MY switch.

They are curious looking switches. Too bad not a full keyboard :{

Linear switches, due to their simplicity, were made by more manufacturers than you could possibly imagine. It's really anyone's guess who made these.

I really like the separate forward and backward tab keys on that thing. But I'm so used to tab on the left and backspace on the right that I'd probably switch the forward and backward tab keys.

It also looks your pad has a "+" where a "/" should be. Very nicely printed keycaps though.
