Dai ichi Yellow - Very strange indeed...
« on: Fri, 03 May 2024, 23:56:09 »
This is probably the strangest switch I have. It's a mx clone called dai ichi yellow, it's this very strange mx clone made by this random manufacturer that there is like no info on at all or I just missed it for some reason.

The weird thing about it is that it has a click leaf, unlike other mx clones, which confuses me a lot. I don't think I've seen a switch do this apart from those zeal clickiez which apparently have a click jacket. It actually feels alright, like if you gave me this I would probably type on and be fine and like it. It's a lot more tactile when not in a keyboard though. I looked around and someone said that there was binding with the switches, I only have one cause it was sent alongside another switch that will be in a small build.

the top is the dai ichi yellow, bottom a cherry clicky switch (sorry for poor image quality but I just got this today and I am very confused about it)

It's loud af and like rattles if you shake like there is something lose in it, but it's just the click leaf moving around hitting the switch housing making that metallic sound.

Just a very strange switch in general, but honestly more mx switches should do click leafs like this, could actually be pretty nice. (that aren't a dollar a switch please)

cherry blacks - unlubed - filmed and springswapped with tx 55g mediums - alu Plate | pretty happy with this, the blacks were cherry picked so they weren't that scratchy to begin with, but currently breaking them in, may lube them with a dry lube like ro59 or ptfe powder.

lubed with tribosys 3203 | like topre a lot, prefer it lubed but did make less tactile but that might have been a skill issue. probably will get more tactile over time as the domes age.

bad orange alps lol | definitely needs a restoration. planning on wax boiling them and maybe a replacement pcb because the board has only 2 key rollover apparently.

gateron yellows - lubed with 205g0 - 62g tx mediums - pc plate | probably my favourite keyboard already, feels super nice and sounds pretty good, it's got a great layout as well. probably gonna build this with mx browns, I feel like it would suit the board more.

stock with silent reds | Pretty cool looking board, the silent reds are actually good, they are smooth and I don't mind the mushiness (it's not even that mushy as well). the layout is pretty weird, but is useable. will probably mod this in the future. maybe a pcb and plate swap, change the keycaps to something dolch like, and also spring swap the springs in the silent reds.

stock, needs a cleaning and probably replacement foam. Do plan to change layout so it has split bs and rs, as well as ansi enter.

Built with new nixies on pc half plate. Love this board already, probably the best looking board I own, those brass accents are so mint. Really like it as is, but I do want to try an alu build (probably with nixies as well) just to experiment with that.

Really interesting switch, first time see it. I think we really need alps click leaf switches nowadays. maybe we should contact gateron and ask them if it possible to make something new with click leaf? (i know about zealpc clickiez). hope their samples dont cost too much

Check out the Gateron Melodics. They are another clicky switch from Gateron that uses a click leaf. Although this one is different from the SKCM ALPS style one Zeal's Clikiez uses, it resembles the mantis leaf used in Tai-Hao APC switches or Xiang Min KSB-C switches. I haven't tried yet myself, but have heard good things.

Yeah this is a pretty odd switch, almost a mix of Pro World clickies & Tawain Jet Axis switches!

Might have to try those out, they seem promising. I do want to compare those with this dai ichi yellow, and maybe zeal clickiez if I can pick them pick them up for not ridiculous prices.

Those switches are also pretty interesting (and also niche and expensive)

I do have a jet axis switch but it's the black linear one instead of a clicky one.

Gateron has a click leaf switch and so does Zeal. There was also a old unbranded MX switch that used click leaf.
