However, depending on the keycap, and the way the switch is mounted (PCB or Plate), the switch could be louder than other switches when bottomed out.

I'm thinking of Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless Linear Force

using: Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless MX Brown switch

I don't have any soundclips, because I don't have a keyboard with Cherry black switches. I have a single Cherry Black switch.

What I can tell you is that a plate mounted switch is usually louder than a PCB mounted switch, and some keycaps resonate the sound of a switch more than others, making the more resonant keycaps louder.

The linear mechanism of the Cherry black is quieter, but there are the other board factors that can make a quiet switch louder.

Do you have any sound sample of Cherry blacks? :)

Look in the respective forum. I know I posted a clip for a Cherry with blacks there... not super high quality but anyway.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

How about the Cherry black switches? Are they noisy?
I've heard the Cherry browns, they're not quiet enough if keys
are bottomed out. Topre is pleasant, but expensive.

Hence I'm wondering about Cherry blacks

Following the lead of the kbdmania folks:

I'm hoping the o-rings I ordered will reduce the bottoming-out sound on my brown-Cherry Filco board.  Not that it's not a fairly quiet board -- my co-worker's Microsoft ergo board with rubber domes is noisier -- it's just that I think it could be a little quieter.

Do those o-rings work? Thanks

Old thread. The dental band method is better.

Thanks so much. It's really helpful :)

I think blacks are the quieter switch. they are virtually impossible to bottom out. No matter how silent the mechanism is, most people do bottom out. I have experience with browns in a public space (classes, library). People do look at you funny. Not so with blacks.
keyboards: Cherry G80-3494- cherry reds | filco majestytouch - cherry browns | kinesis contour - cherry browns | cherry G80 - 1800 cherry blacks.
mice: filco touchpad | logitech G9x | wowpen joy | kensington orbit trackball | zalman fpsgun | intellimouse v1 | logitech rx1500

These are quiet, cheap, and weigh and measure less than a pad of paper.
