Pretty much one of the top 3 things i miss from the south (which isn't much) one of them is Chik-fil-A, them chicken nuggets were pure as silk!

Any of you seen Jamie Oliver's food revolution show in the U.S.?
I mean, yeah it's a bit corny and its TV so who knows what of it is real and fake.

But I did believe one scene was real. When he showed the american children how nuggets were made and they were all disgusted and understood that all the good parts of the chicken are actually NOT in those damn nuggets and when he finished making 2 nuggets and asked them all who would eat that, they all raised their hands...

"Why would you eat that, knowing what disgusting stuff is inside it?"
"Because I'm hungry and it looks yummy!"

Can't make that up :)

hey the chik-fil-A nuggest were pure yummy breastmeat, chik-fil-A is like the cleanest,nicest chicken fast food ever!
But why do ppl not expect this? i mean look at deli turkey breast, now i've cooked some turkey in these few years, but i've never cooked turkey in the way to produce deli meat turkey. Thats cuz they mash 2 whole turkey breats together, inject it with some kind of wierd saunce that breaks down everything, put it in a steam package, and there you have, magically 2 seperate pieces of breat meat become one big uniform globule.

It's like ppl have turkey for thxgiving, but they don't think, gee the deli slices the turkey and it comes out all nice and even like, why does it look so shredding during thxgiving tho?...

I mean i stopped buying deli meat when i rationalized that 1lb of boars head turkey = 1lb rib eye. So i told the fiancee, i'm just gonna gook a whole turkey for you instead of buying deli meat can't justify it cuz i could be eating rib eye instead!


but why are ppl surprised? look at pringles, no matter how well you slice a potatoe it'll never be a super uniform stack of oval chips! cuz it's all just finely diced potatoes pressed together to create that super uniform look.

When I looked at the picture, it looked like ice cream. The chicken nuggets I have eaten revealed real chicken meat, with its fibrous structure within them. Not that I haven't eaten mechanically deboned chicken - as part of sausage or baloney.

btw, I think 'mechanically separated' is a misnomer. From the description, nothing is separated at all, lol:

when they use the term 'mechanically separated', I initially imagined a robot with a knife in one hand and a fork in the other, doing to roasted chickens what a human might do to a roasted turkey on thanksgiving evening.

I dont think most people realize that what it actually means is "throw chicken under 12-ton steam roller, lift off carcass, scrape up all the remaining "essence of chicken" and put it in a sandwich with mustard".  

Thats basically what the process does. Its basically road-kill chicken. Without the freshness.
 
I also wouldnt be surprised if they then boil down the carcasses to make soups.

THat reminds me of "chase no face," a cat that doesn't have a face with its insane owner that keeps applying some chemicals to keep the cat's... "face" moist.

hey, wierd parts of the animal taste good, i love buying oxtail and tripe from walmart(i've since stopped going cuz my superwalmart is too busy and the lines are like 40minutes to checkout, so i go the extra 2 miles to a real supermarket, otherwise that superwalmart was awesome)

man, i put oxtail and tripe in a tomato/potatoe based soup and simmer it for a whole day, tastes awesome! (gotta really skim the fat/oil tho it's pretty fatty) Fiancee loves it. I tried eating 1 eye from a fish one time, i don't even really like fish, didn't like the eyeball either.

I'll try anything if it's cooked (cooked right would be better), but not like raw stuff (like just raw livers or something or live insects, bleh).

In Germany a few months ago there was a big uproar about fake cheese and fake ham being used in the restaurant industry because its cheaper.

basically what they did was use some sort of gelatine and mix it with some artificial colors and flavors... Tastet close enough to the real thing and saved them a few € so everyone was doing it.

****in' disgusting if you ask me and I think they just did it so they could raise the price of "real" cheese and ham :D

you know hershey's doesn't even use cocoa beans for it's chocolate (aside from hershey bar) it uses faux vegetable oil to emulate the chocolate taste, made some factories in mexico for it too.

As far as I know, potatoes have no testicles that can be mechanically recovered and passed off as more palatable parts.

Some of the unpleasant sounding body parts are often the healthiest to eat, being rich in essential fatty acids, for example. If you're ever starving and need to kill something to eat, be sure to eat the eyeballs and brains real quick as they have the best nutrients but sadly also degrade quickly.

I don't really object to eating odd body parts, but when you bite into a chunk of gristle that you can't possibly chew up it does rather break the illusion that you are eating decent meat.

Hersheys is like ridiculously low quality chocolate. It doesn't surprise me that it supposedly doesn't even include real cocoa beans. If it ever did, then a very, very low percentage and lots of sugar.

A friend of mine once brought me a huge 1 kg hershey bar as a gift from the US.
It was disgusting and I ate (or served it to guests :behindsofa:) for like half a year.
Being used to swiss, french, belgian, german chocolate just makes hershey's look like ****. And that is particularly grave when it comes to chocolate..

Altoids on the other hand are the shieeeeeet! Been trying to get them here for ages. Only variety we have so far are the standard red (package) ones...

And wouldn't mind trying some of the newer varieties either (except cinnamon, that stuff is gross)

Asians can be quite gross with their raw seafood tick....

I saw a video once of an asian chick eating a still living squid from a plate. Showed it to some chinese peeps, they laughed cuzz they know it grossed me out. Other than that, they didn't find it particularly peculiar

some korean friends told me about the live squid, say it tastes nice and the live texture is the thrill, especially if you forgoe chewing it and just swallow it whole and keep forcing it down your esaphogus(sp) cuz since it's alive it'll still try to crawl back out, but this only lasts 5-10 seconds cuz your esaphogus moves the sucker down towards your stomach really fast (where it meets the acid and dies).

i ain't never gonna try this, that is the more daredevil version, the more tame version is to cut it up while it's still alive and feed it you that instant, this way it still phantom moves but ain't gonna try to crawl out and is well easier to eat cuz it's chunk size.

It's cows' actually, it's a delicasy where I'm from also. Baked in a real fire usually, quite healthy and nutrient.
Not done so much since some went bonkers (the cows that is).

Are you sure about that? It sounds like a load of crap to me. I've been to Korea a few times, been to hundreds of Korean restaurants and go to Korean food markets regularly and I've never even heard about Koreans eating live squid.

Those "Korean friends" of yours must be bull****ting you for a laugh.

i always tell the story of when my friend from hong kong took me to a 'real' dim sum place in seattle's chinatown. All i could eat was the bread. It was absolutely disgusting.

But I suppose it does prove the point that if you put a honey glaze over anything, people will eat it.

That's disturbing and disgusting. It seems you were right - but I certainly don't think it's common. People that eat live squid must be like the equivalent of people in the US that eat fried roadkill possum on a stick. It happens, but it doesn't represent the majority of the population.

It didn't rot because it dried out and is full of salt. Beef jerky easily lasts that long without spoiling and isn't even cooked beforehand.

good point. it is basically beef jerky. with special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

I doubt that eating live squid is considered particularly deviant in Japan, any more than boiling live lobster is here.

However, only a small minority of Japanese indulge themselves in that other famed Japanese gourmet delight - fugu fish. Sufficiently qualified chefs are just too hard to find; tetrodotoxin can be a killer.

My daughter loves fish eyes, I have seen her eat so many now its not even disgusting anymore.

Fugo is less dangerous than you think.  The good Chefs are the ones that can leave more poison IN.  keeping it out is "easy".  Its the tingling poison feeling that gives the rush.
