FTSC switches better than nothing?

I talked to the nice ergonomics man at my job about getting a compact mechanical keyboard. He's not familiar with mechanical keyboards. I asked for a FILCO tenkeyless, but http://www.elitekeyboards.com isn't in our company's supplier database. So, he found an alternative from a supplier who is. At first I was super excited, but now I'm kind of not...

He asked if I would like him to order a Cherry G81-1800, which I came to find out uses, of course, "FTSC technology - mechanical individual keys with membrane contact switches". I scoured geekhack and learned that FTSC switches don't look very desirable for a software developer touch typist.

I like the size and layout of it, but I get the feeling that even a compact keyboard with boring old membrane switches would be nicer on my fingers. Do you agree?

I agree...a nice rubber dome is definitely better than a nasty mechanical switch. Keytronic makes nice rubber dome boards.

hmm, normally G81-1800 has Cherry MX Blacks.
I own more than one all blacks

Or buy your own decent one and bring it. Many of us have chosen to do that.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'll see what other options there are.

If I had to choose between a mechanical keyboard and a compact one, I THINK I'd choose a compact one. My mouse is just too darn far away.
