Eve Online?
« on: Sat, 18 December 2010, 22:10:10 »
I reactivated my account for the free 5 days.

I have always wanted to like this game, but I always found it boring running missions.

Has anyone here ever really gotten into Eve?

I prefer to watch from a safe distance, namely via YouTube. Have thought about playing it a few times but always looked like it was kind of slow paced, despite all the epic political aspects to it and such.

Don't like paying monthly. So I margin traded to buy game time. It worked pretty well with a 50 mil headstart from a friend, but after a few months it became apparent that it =/= fun.

Just look at the big fleet battles on YouTube. So there is speed metal in the background and then you see.. nothing. Dots moving back and forth. Wow. Gotta get me some of that.

Fighting is not fun in this game.

I thought it was really fun and was the only MMO I ever paid for.  Did the 3-month bundle deal (which, arguably, costs less than a full game so...), then had to quit after a month.  I just didn't have the time for it anymore.

It IS boring if you just run missions and stuff.  If you join a corporation in outlaw space it is really awesome.  Just perfecting a ship build is fun in itself.

It seems to be a cool game, but I just didn't like it when I tried. Just not my cup o' tea.

I like to read about the billion credit scams, and the subtle years-long subversion take-over mass simultaneous defection schemes. Kind of like Modelling real life that way.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

It's intresting in political sense, but I never got in it, and likely never will have the commitment to get in it...
So I should add something useless here yes? Ok, ok...

What sounds so cool on paper is pretty drab in the everyday game. So you plan to scam people out of money by opening a bank. Essentially, you do banking and advertising all the time then. People get PAID to do that in real life. Cyber-bucks is a pretty lame incentive in comparison.

Except people get thrills watching movies about embezzling and stuff, so remind me why a game can't elicit the same response?

Bit different to watch movie in hour or two than commit the largest operations which may take months...

I can say it's a lot more satisfying though.

So I haven't been really able to delve into the game this week; Holidays and all.

However I just saw these demos of the new character modeling system. WOW!
