Deck Legend "Tactile" Keyboards

I am reading that they use Clear switches and not Brown how much of a difference would this make? I know they should be a little stiffer but would it be enough for me to even notice?

Also thanks for this site. This place has been a tremendous help in trying to determine which keyboard I should get. I started down this journey after messing around on my friends Filco while playing SC2.

I find it as there being a big difference between Cherry MX Clear and Brown.
The Brown has a small bump at the activation point.
The Clear has a large bump at the beginning until the activation point where you could describe it as there being a valley. Then the resistance increases sharply.

I have a DL tactile and I love it. All a matter of taste. I personnaly prefer stiffer swiches.

And if you like backlit boards. You can't beat Deck's.

One advantage to clears is you wont bottom out with them which is what causes a lot of noise.  But the larger tactile bump on them might cause a little tiny bit more switch noise.

I wish there were more options available for clears.  Like a tenkeyless with clears would be awesome

I was just thinking the same thing. There was a thread about some 'kit keyboard' that was a tenkeyless available with clears for ~$300+ and you have to assemble and solder it yourself. Don't know if it ever came out though.

I've often pondered getting one of these Decks...website says they're out of stock till Feb. 1 though.

Coming from the Switch Try Numpad, the Clears are what the Browns should be IMHO. Mostly because I can actually FEEL that tactile bump with the Clears, whereas the Browns are almost linear-feeling, and I can't stand linear switches. They also still make a lot less noise than the Blues in operation.

That said, I can't justify Deck Legend prices to get them. I already spent enough on this DSI Modular Mac I'm using now (MX Blue version) and am currently content enough with that. (But if I ever find a cheap board with working Clears mounted the same way, I might-just might-order it and break out the soldering iron...)

Mouser does sell the Cherry MX Clears as individual switches. The switches cost 86 cents a pop for orders over 100 pieces, so that would work out to $89.04 for 104 switches. They cost 93 cents each for orders between 50 and 100 though, so grabbing 87 of them for a tenkeyless would only drop the price down to $80.91. If you could do a group buy with one or two people, they'll cut the price to 79 cents a switch for orders over 250 and 73 cents a switch for orders over 500 pieces. How much do you like clears?:smile:

Hmmm...I wonder how hard it would be to swap PCB mounted switches from brown to clear. I have a few clears on my Cherry 8100, and I vastly prefer them to the browns. They are all in the function row, though.

Now I'm curious...
