Deciding on my first Mech 'board, help please :)
« on: Sun, 16 January 2011, 23:25:41 »
I've narrowed it down to two options:

Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless Brown, via armygroup

or

Leopold FC200RT Brown, which I'd be waiting on elitekeyboards for

Basically, I'm just hung up on build quality, and if one was just "a bit better" I'd go for it, even if more expensive to do so (say, as much as $50USD). I would very much appreciate input from people who have experience with both.

I pretty much know that I'll be pleased with either, because my current board is, well... this, and has been for nearly 5 years *shudders*

Ill drop my regular comment to these kind of threads in here...^^.

If you have done the research and are fully committed to your choice already, just ignore anything after this.

Have you taken the time to try the different avilable switches? How would you compare Cherry browns to blacks or blues? What do you think of BS boards? I recommend testing the switches before you make a final decision on the board, in the worst case you will be dropping 200 bucks on something that might or might not meet your expectations.
Go by your own feeling, not the reviews or what other people say. Every person has different hands, and muscles in the hands, and I urge you to find what you are most comfortable with before committing to a purchase. I've read several stories of people who didn't and then ended up angry/dissappointed because their new hyped MX brown board felt worse then their old Logisucks Membrane board. Felt worse *to them*. Also, you will end up knowing you made the right and fully educated decision and won't end up wondering over and over if a different switch might not have been better.

Either way, best of luck with your purchase, and welcome to the community!

I've actually tried Cherry Browns, Blacks, and Blues (albeit of the same brand) and am certain Browns are for me, so that's not so much the issue.

I was only wanting to know the raw quality of those two specific boards against each other. That is to say, does the Leopold have cheaper, less reliable materials/manufacturing than the Filco? The handful of feature changes on the Leopold interest me, but not so much that I'd sacrifice build quality.
