How much is a Japanese 5576-02 worth?
« on: Sat, 22 January 2011, 21:09:30 »
It turns out someone I know has one and says they're fairly common in Japan. How much are they worth around here?

They also feel rather different than a regular M. Much lighter, and the feel isn't as substantial as a real M. These use Alps beam springs right?

He also has at least two SSKs and a number of full sized Ms.

EDIT: It's actually a 5576-A01, probably since it had two piece caps.

The -002 had two part caps as well. Easiest way to differenciate them, aside from part numbers on the back is that the -002 had a speaker and a volume slider. The A01 has stuff like Ctrl and Alt written in English, whereas the -001 has them in Japanese.

The -002 and -001 used Alps plate spring switches. These are meant to be quite nice, but have long term wear issues. Ones that are NIB or in little used condition sell for quite a bit, whereas older ones, and the -001 model (which is like a 122-key, except PS/2 compatible) sell for next to nothing.

As for how much they'd sell for over here? Depends. They're mainly of interest to collectors due to the layout I guess. I am somewhat interested in getting a -001 at some stage, they're usually quite cheap on Yahoo Japan auctions.
