Thanks to iMav, I am now in possession of an Unicomp SpaceSaver. Brings back some memories, but I guess with age my typing shifted to the lighter side. Still a nice feeling, and I could gradually adjust back at the cost of extra force if it had to be my only keyboard, but the MX blues are so comfortable right now.
Anyway, I have a small problem with it. I won't go into the Unicomp imperfections - it still it's a nice board for the price and the unique experience of brand new BS. The problem is that my F1 key has trouble with the hammer/pivot. The key still works, although it lacks the loud buckling click and feels like watered down version. Upon removing the keycap, I can see the pivot is not in the expected position - kinda like already travelled some of the distance, and the spring is not pointing upwards, but somewhere in the middle. That explains the reduced buckling effect and the less force required.
My question is - since fiddling with it doesn't change anything, does it mean unavoidable total disassembly? What could be wrong, and could it be broken pivot and need of replacement? I'd want to consider the effort required and the risk involved. I might just let it live with the softer F1 if effort/risk surpasses certain (low) threshold.
