Sigh, my razer black widow is sometimes 1kro....
« on: Mon, 02 May 2011, 17:03:15 »
I don't mean to use the title to catch some eyeballs, this is actually what happened to me.

I was coding for hours and hours yesterday just because that my bwu sometimes can not register shift+letter keys. It goes on and off therefore it messed with all the variables in my codes. I don't know if this is a problem of cherry blue or the problem with bwu design. I am not a very fast typist therefore I am pretty sure that I pressed both keys and the problem does not come from a missed actuation.

anyway, thanks for reading my *****ings.... I am now back again on the market for a new kb.

what I really appreciate on my bwu is
-backlit
-cherry blue clicky clicky
-audio io ports
-usb port
-macro keys
-media keys

however since I am getting a new kb, I don't mind give up some of these features. however I would really like to keep the usb port and the media keys. Maybe a HHKB PRO?

thanks in advance

I'm a developer too and I did consider getting the happy hacking.  However, I gave up on that idea immediately after I realized there was no function key row.  I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts in both my IDE (and for starcraft).

I also considered the black widow for two reasons.  I thought it looked pretty cool and it was pretty cheap compared to other mechanical keyboards.  What I didn't like was the offset function keys and the full sized keyboard.

I eventually bought a leopold w/ brown switches w/ blanks.  I'm pretty happy with it overall.  It is my first mechanical KB.  Its small enough to fit in my 15.6" laptop bag actually for a mobile gaming/workstation.  I have tried the filco's and I DO think the price difference may be worth it.  The leopold keys don't feel as responsive as some other ppl on GH have said.

Also..don't get the otaku version as I did haha.  I don't know about you, but I realized I don't usually touch type some of the odder symbols that developers use (like {, }, |).  Also, both your hands aren't always on the homerow when you suddenly want to do a quick keyboard shortcut.  Definitely a slight learning curve for me as a developer.

So... is it not just a flakey switch under the shift key?

Shift? Wonder if it is related to this issue. BW is well-known to having a hard press Left Shift if press off-center(in fact it is not off center but on mid-left).

The Black Widows seem hit and miss.  Mine is perfectly fine, but I know other people have had issues with them.
Filco Majestouch 104 Cherry MX Black; Filco Majestouch 87 Ninja Cherry MX Brown; Filco Majestouch Indigo Blue 104 Cherry MX Brown; Filco Majestouch 2 104 Cherry MX Red; Leopold 87 Otaku Cherry MX Brown; Leopold 87 Cherry MX Brown; Razer Black Widow Ultimate
