I'll probably be picking up a Razer Lachesis soon and I was thinking of replacing my rather worn SteelSeries 5L pad, but I have no idea what pad would give a similar feel.

I've seen forum members here talk about a few brands I'd barely even heard about before, so I figured this is a good place to ask;

What pad would give a feel similar to the cloth/plastic hybrid surface of the 5L?
I have to QcK pads here, but can't say they feel as comfortable as the 5L.
When I game I tend to play at mid-high sensitivity if that's any help.

Mid-high sensitivity? you didn't give out any inches or cm/360. What is your sensitivity? how do you use your mouse claw or fingertip? wrist or arm view sweep?. Kinda strange your going for the lachesis since most people find it awkward I guess your claw grip by the fact your not bothered by it.

In that review he mentions it being similar to hybrid pads. It's a cloth pad but it has a very hard backing even in the softer versions but most pick up the hard version.

There's also another pad the artisan shiden which reviews are hard to come by but it's a cloth pad with glass beads it's not a glass plate like the icemat. It's seem to be smoother with less friction and or more glide. Though I've read of a few people disliking the shiden but it was the x-soft shiden and not the mid, not sure why exactly. They are also coming out with the hayate and hayabusa as well in the coming months. Only negatives of these pads is they are expensive, they take long to ship(amazon has some but only the value editions and the sizes are only in mid/large and you haven't yet mentioned what your sens is), and there's hardly any in depth reviews on them, so it's hard to get good information on them. Plus your not much into mousepads don't want to convince you on something as expensive that you might not like.

Thanks for the info, it was something like this I was hoping for.

The reason I haven't stated any in-depth info about sensitivity etc. is that I'm not all that serious about it, nor do I have anything set. I vary all the time, sometimes I go low sense with accel and everything, sometimes I play with bat**** high sensitivity. I also don't have a particular grip I favour really, I switch mice pretty often varying between palm, claw and sometimes fingertip.
I do have one preference of the ones you listed though; most of the time I use my wrist to sweep, not very used to sweeping with my whole arm.
In short; I just do what feels good at the time.


Also; price isn't much of an issue as long as it doesn't get ridiculous. As I said I'm not a very serious gamer, I play very casually, but I still want mouse usage to feel great both in and out of games.

So, to get an Artisan pad is the best option to order via their website? They look very interesting and I'd love to give them a go.

I would say unfortunately yeah because only recently did they decided to expand outside Japan.

But after checking amazon again, I guess I was wrong on they do have some more mousepads. Must have not gotten all the searches when I checked there but not all the pads(types) are available and most seem to be the value edition(it has a slightly different middle layer and instead of a rubber sole it uses an embossing finish to make it a bit cheaper); plus again the price is pretty high though ironically close the sale price from their own site.
