Bottoming out on Topres vs. Reds
« on: Tue, 05 July 2011, 18:21:26 »
Okay my absolute favorite switch is the linear red.  Very light touch and no tactile bump.  I can type right along on red switches without bottoming out.  But on the topres, even when I concentrate and type slow, I cannot help but bottom out.  Is this pretty common with the topres or do you ever get to the point of not bottoming out with them?
Current in order of preference:  RealForce 87U Silent White with variable weighted keys X 2, Filco Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless with Linear Reds, Filco Number-pad, Poker with Linear Reds

Sold or returned:  Multiple Microsoft and Logitech keyboards, Das Keyboard Silent, Cherry 6140, RealForce 103UB, RealForce 86U, Filco Majestouch 2 full sized with Linear Reds

You can type on reds and not bottom out?

What's your WPM?

I've tried to not bottom out but it's really hard to accomplish when I go above 70WPM.

If I go slowly with reds it's pretty easy to not bottom out.

It's possible with a lot of practice, but it slows me down considerably. Topre should really implement stiffer springs that have a good rebound.

I'm definitely not the fastest typist in town at around 55-60 wpm.  But I seriously have a light touch and can just barely skim the tops of the reds and go like the wind (at least for me that is) and not bottom out at all.  Not so for me with the topres.

Try gently tapping the top of the keys, with practice you will type faster.
