Dell AT101W, CH DT225 Trackball
« on: Thu, 23 June 2011, 14:47:50 »
It took me a while to realize that I've essentially only used my HHKB and Filco Blue in over a year.  Lately, just the Filco. Time for the rest to go.

Shipped prices are to CONUS only, PM me for possible international shipping.

EDIT: awesome, the two nicest ones were apparently blowout-priced. I'm out of touch.

---

SOLD - Cherry G86-6241 (Ricercar SPOS POS) (MX Brown)
Brand new in box, never used. Serial number 53. These are too coveted for me to continue to never use mine. Programmable keys, very soft-feeling PCB-mounted switches.

---

SOLD - Filco Zero
I was told this was a Fukka when buying, yet the box says XM. I have no idea how to tell, and don't really want to take it apart to find out.
Model FKBN87Z/EB, Serial 09050116
Basically new, but I am the second owner. I never used it, the previous owner hooked it up to verify operation if I recall correctly. Switch just does not interest me.

---

SOLD - IBM Model M M13 in Black
Another "had to have it" type of purchase, I only ended up using this for about an hour. Great condition other than some black marking that I dare not attempt to remove with cleaners (detailed in second picture). Very minor, I had to try to make this appear. Original cord was replaced with the gray one. White lettering is unworn and looks absolutely perfect. Nipple in great condition, and I have another to go with it (remind me before shipping).
Images make it look like some of the keys are worn. I promise this is not the case. When I look very close, this must just be the shape of the keys, a bit of skin oils or something... because the keys are not worn in the centers like the image seems to show.

---

SOLD - Apple Extended Keyboard II (AEKII AEK II)
Guess what? I never used it, not once. Of course, it is used. Yellowing is not that bad and fairly uniform, that's the reason I got this one. Keys are beautiful, I would keep it for that reason if I could use them on another board. You will need an adapter to make this work.

---

Dell AT101 AT101W (Black Alps) - $50 shipped
New in box, never used (to my knowledge). Bought this on a whim, never even tried it.

---

CH DT225 Trackball - Make some offers, these range in price a lot
I have two of these. Bought for a project that I don't care for anymore. Never removed from box, new. PS/2.

Having some trouble figuring out which Zero this is. Hopefully mmmty won't pay me quite yet. I don't know what to do because I feel like I underpriced it either way.

mmmty still has dibs if he is okay with the ambiguity, otherwise, it is not quite yet for sale.

You mean is it Fukka or XM?  Post some pics of the switch and the part number.  Here..

Fukka is on the left and XM is on the right.  Hope that helps. =)

I edited the ad to show:
Model FKBN87Z/EB, Serial 09050116

I don't want to take it apart, it's essentially new. I don't want to be the person to break a switch/cap trying to identify.
My research, though, seems to indicate the box is wrong and it is Fukka.
I can't even judge by feel, I've never typed on it.

Hmmm, this also says XM on the front.

I was fairly sure all Filco Zeros were Fukkas.

Exactly. Everything... including the PMs from the original sale... indicate Fukka. I listed it as XM before I knew better (and still consider myself unsure) because of the 'XM' on the box.

XM might not mean anything then since according to Ripster in the Japanese wiki thingo that picture there with the purple and 4 extra keys is Fukkas

According to ripster, fukka is supposed to be better. So, I'm hoping for a fukka then.

Whichever it is, sooner or later, you will be tempted to try the other one, to find out for yourself :-p

He said he's too worried about breaking something to pop one off.

It seems odd to me to buy that many alps variants and literally never even try them.

There's a lot of opportunity here to ridicule myself, instead, I'll just point out that I'm selling all of them.

May I ask why you didn't, though? For all you know alps could be your number one favorite switch.

Because I have a tendency to buy stuff when I want it, and instead of actually using it, let it sit there and enjoy just owning it.

I didn't use the Filco Zero much because it was new. If I used it, it would then be 'used' and resale value lower.
Same with the Dell AT101W.
Extra same with the Cherry.
The AEKII requires an adapter that I no longer feel like getting.

I know, it's so dumb.

I simply don't like the Model M, despite how much I want to.
I was going to list my Cherry MX11900, but the keycaps are so nice and it really is a joy to type on. Need to get a better USB adapter so it's half decent. I probably will sell it if/when I get a NKRO board. I can't help but to feel like I'm just getting used to something semi-strange and ultimately not as good as a better board with MX Blacks.

...and that's the biggest problem. Despite owning a HHKB, I've moved on to only be able to tolerate one type of layout. Not that the standard is the best, but if I'm going to be typing on more than one type of keyboard, I cannot make the mental switch to accommodate strange layouts. That's the main reason for not liking the Cherry I have for sale... I'll never use a keyboard that creates mis-strokes for playing Starcraft II. It's hard enough to justify going to another room and rearranging my desk and all just to use a different keyboard, and it's very discouraging when I start making mistakes on the new one. I've cancelled so many buildings in SC2 on the HHKB after using a normal keyboard, it's probably going to be for sale soon too.

The real shame is I'm starting to get entirely complacent with whatever's in front of me. I've had the Blue Filco hooked up for so long that using the HHKB feels so soft and strange... I'm still buying other boards, but they just sit on a shelf in the box.

I won't get into how much this behavior parallels most of my hobbies.

I'll take a picture when I get it.

I enjoy using different keyboards everyday. Just today I use Poker red, HHKB Lite, and a Realforce 103UW. It makes going to work less suck. I think of it as going to play with my keyboards at work.

Got the keyboard today and it's pretty awesome!! I think it's a fukka since the switches are white. It feels like brown but the tactile is bigger and it's clicky like blue. And it's LOUD! I really like how it feels when I type on this keyboard. A good combination of clear (tactile), brown (key weight) & blue (clicky).

If you haven't used complicateds I think you'd probably like them better. Whites or blues (or ghetto blues, you do have an imate)

Do you have examples of keyboards with those switches? I'm thinking about trying Matias Tactile Pro but I think it's the same switch as Filco Zero.

I think I don't know what you're asking.

Yes, I own boards that have complicated switches (and my dell is for sale).

No, they are no longer made, and you can't get a new/modern board with them in it.

You could buy a recent board like the one you got, and a focus or something and solder the complicated switches into the new board, though.

I found a used Leading Edge DC-2014 with blue ALPS on ebay. But $60 is a bit too much so I didn't buy it.

That one is XT anyway.

Also, for blue alps that is actually extremely cheap. Those things can run $200-300.

That was another thing. I wasn't sure if it would work on a PC. What kind of an adapter do I have to get?

When trying to figure out how to use a Model F XT on the cheap, I found out it isn't really feasible.

Well there are some xt adapters that you can buy for about $100. It would let you get a blue alps for cheaper than they have gone before, but still.

The other thing you can do to that particular board is spaghetti wire all the switches to a random controller.

Ha. Those are montereys, not complicated alps. I don't have one of those yet, I'd like to try it.

Although with those in your sig being there, you do have some complicated alps, just black and cream alps (black, with rubber dampeners) (dell and AEKII). I have no idea what the M0116 uses, but I don't think it is one of the clicky variety. Alot of people say that black is worthless and whites/blues are the only way alps are any good.

A focus or omnikey are generally the things people get for that.

I did see some Focus 2001 but they were nasty looking. Omnikey are expensive - $100-$500. Apple M0116 has orange/pink non-clicky switches. That's the one with the broken 'Y' key. I don't care much for Dell AT101W either.

This is the $500 one on ebay. There is Make Offer option so it's actually less than $500. But the cheapest omnikey I found on ebay is at least $100.

Well if you're willing to wait on them just check every now and again. But likely the lowest you'd win it at would be about $60 plus shipping.
