Can't get my brand new ducky shine to work.
« on: Wed, 13 June 2012, 22:03:28 »
Hey guys,

My ducky shine just arrived, but is not working at all for me..
The LED lights are on, and I can adjust them with the Fn key, but the keyboard does not talk to the computer at all.

I am using USB - my laptop doesn't have PS2..
I have tried all my USB slots,
Tried restarting with it already plugged in,
checked legacy usb support was enabled in BIOS
That is about where my cpu knowledge takes me. Anyone have any ideas?

Nothing installed when I turned my cpu on, and I can't see anything in device manager that looks like the ducky shine.

My laptop is a P170HM-SE - http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/store/482-clevo-horize-p170hm-se-notebook-pc.html

I also plugged the keyboard into my old laptop and have the exact same problem.

Pretty devastated right now.. Been looking forward to this for 3 weeks..

For a moment, I thought I read "Can't get my brand new Ducky to shine".... :)

Where did you get the board from? Does the keyboard register as a device in windows when it gets plugged in, but doesn't respond to key clicks?

The link you give states that the unit comes without an operating system.  Are you running Linux?

Running windows 7..

I wasn't really concentrating when I first plugged it in, but I am pretty sure it didn't pop up saying 'New hardware detected' etc.. When i go to device manager I can't find anything that looks like the ducky shine.. not under keyboard or under USB, and I have no unsupported devices listed.

I got it from pc-case-gear and I called them today, the guy who answered had no idea, and had never heard of it happening before.
I have filed for warranty so will probably send it back tomorrow. Would really rather not though.. I have to go back to work in a few days so I won't be able to get it in time, and will have to wait another 3 weeks..

Yay..
Decided to give it another go, plugged it in.. same as before nothing happened.

Then opened up device manager, and unplugged it to see if anything changed.. nothing happened.

Plugged it back in with device manager open and hey presto.. it installed itself and is working fine

Oh no.. Celebrated too early..

The plot thickens.. I got it working on my old laptop... plugged it into my new one, and it installs but still doesn't work..

Any ideas haha? I Have tried uninstalling then scanning for changes a few times, it finds it each time and installs it but still doesn't work.

Must be my cpu not the keyboard that is playing up though so I won't send it back..

Might be something in the USB settings in the BIOS.  Compare the two machines.

Yeah take it to a few different computers and see if it works elsewhere.  Working on 1 of 2 is too small of a sample size.  Try to find another Windows 7 machine.
