Does brand affect the feel of the switch?

Hi I have tried both brown and black switches and have not really liked them. Recently my local best buy got some Razer Blackwidow mechanical keyboards. I was able to try them and I LOVED the feel. I want a keyboard with blue switches (I think that is what the razer mech. keyboards are.) but i really don't the Razer one since its alot of money for stuff I don't want and a sub-par keyboard. I was wondering if different brands affect the feel of the switch and key press? Thanks for the help.

razer marketing says they can "cherry pick" specific blues, don't know if that's true, a BW owner or 2 will pipe up soon.

The switches are all the same but the sound produced bottoming out, and the key finish and shape can affect the perceived feeling, plate mount v.s. pcb mount is also a differentiation factor.

Personally i tried BW, Q-PAD Mk80, and some blue switches placed for test on a BL 82 and I prefer , by far, the Qpad feeling, and its dampened sound w/o any strange resonance/ping/ring/whatever.

HAHAHHAHA....oh my god they actually said that?

Thats gotta be the biggest lie of the century. My first mechanical was a razer bw ultimate...not only did some of the leds not work, and flicker...but the blue switches had different feels for different keys. My number 5 key(not 10key section) felt like the switch was down right broken, totally mushy and not smooth. I had this issue on 2 different razer bw ultimate boards...both brand new.

The das and the filco I experienced had all the same key feels, no weird switches.

Razer also said I can do headshots constantly with their mouse. I believed them twice.

What is cherry pick exactly? Have cherry GmbH pick the switch for them? Then guess what?  All my MX boards are "cherry picked."


What has made Razer such a cutting-edge company has a lot to do with the brand of coolaid they drink in their office.  Yeah, one of those "Molten Lava SP edition Free-ion Plasma Shame-Agnostic Blend"

We can see through razers cloud of marketing deceit, but you gotta give them credit...no one else can sell a mouse pad with a carrying case, and with a certificate of authenticity for 35 bucks.

Is not impossible that Cherry could sell matched switches or switches in a narrower range of tolerances, to a customer. As happen with almost any other electronic component.

It's also sure that Razer numbers are one order of magnitude above other less known brands, so they could ask from a different position. Then I don't know if it's true but is definitely possible.

HAHA thanks for the responses. I'm just going to assume that they are very similar and I shouldn't freak out about getting a keyboard that works and feels the exact same.

I'm looking in to getting a Leopold should that have the same general feel and tactile response as the Blackwidow?? Thanks for the responses.

BW and Leopold uses different kind of stabilizers. The former are lighter and doesn't add much inertia to the keys but they are also less firm, more wobbly, the latter are more robust, but a little less pleasant to type on.

The tactile response should be the same, but there will be more force needed for the Leopold, and there may be a bit more of a friction-y feel to the large, stabilized keys.
This is, of course, only on large keys, like the Left and Right Shift, Return, Backspace, and Numpad 0 and Numpad Enter

Das, (the actual model) and Filcos are both made by Costar. Some older DAS were rebranded Cherry
