One key is slightly heavier and makes a different sound
« on: Wed, 13 July 2011, 17:33:44 »
Hi everyone,

This is my first post here on this forum. I have recently bought my first mechanical keyboard (yay!). It's a Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja with MX Brown switches. I love it and it's such a big difference compared to my old Logitech keyboard.
However, just now I noticed that one of the keys (the '3' on the keypad) feels slightly heavier to press down and makes a different sound than the rest of the keys. I believe It's the sound of the spring that's inside it. You can specifically hear it once you've gone past the tactile bump. It's as though the spring isn't fitted snugly or something.

How can I resolve this? I have attached two mp3 files for convenience, attachment one being the key in question and number two being a normal one. You might have to turn up the volume a bit because it's pretty quiet.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks. I was just testing out the other keys and noticed that there are other keys as well making that 'scratchy' noise but not as much and not as noticeable unless I keep my ears near the keys. The 3 on the keypad and F8 are more noticeable though. Is this a common issue with Cherry switches? Because then I doubt swapping it would change anything since it might just be on the replacement keyboard as well. The sound is only really noticeable if I press the keys slowly.

I've had spring issues before with my mouse when it was brand new (scroll wheel) but that disappeared after some usage (it was making the same kind of noise). Maybe I'm just going to hold out and see if it goes away.
