A change of sound in key? (MX Browns)
« on: Sat, 10 December 2011, 14:43:27 »
I've purchased my first mechanical about two weeks ago, a Zowie Celeritas, Ive been very happy with it until about two days ago when I noticed one of the keys has developed a clicking noise when bottomed out. Its not quite as loud as an mx blue switch click but it is quite audible, it happens about 8/10 times I press the key.

None of the other keys have this issue. I've removed the keycap and noticed the black base around the switch has a tiny bit more give compared to other keys, but its so tiny im not sure if this would be the cause of the issue?

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I play a lot of starcraft so the key in question gets used a lot, its quite annoying hearing one key with a clicky noise when others dont have it.

I've recorded the sound, not sure where to upload it as the forum tells me im too noob to post megaupload links - if anyone needs the sound to make an assessment.

Halp halp! and thanks!

Haha alright, I'll get to it later tonight. I'm pretty sure I've found the issue however, putting my finger on top of the switch (keycap removed) and wiggling it lightly left to right it definitely has more give than other switches, and the noise it makes as its shifting left to right is of the same pitch as the louder clicky noise it produces when bottomed, is there any way to fix this? I'm hoping to avoid RMAing it, maybe im abit ocd but hearing that clicky noise everytime i press the key makes me :(

If you bottom out with lighter presses, would the sound still be obvious?

Less often, but it still happens.

After looking through the wiki though, it became fairly obvious id have to do some soldering to open up the switch and see whats going on in there (plate mounted), and I lack the skills for that, I live in Croatia, had the keyboard shipped from the US so RMAing it would mean at least a month of absence. I'll just have to get used to it till I eventually get a replacement.

Thanks for the links/info.
