Poker Keycap Options other than engraved PBTs?
« on: Mon, 19 September 2011, 16:44:29 »
Anyone have sources for replacement poker keycaps beyond the engraved ones in the Geekhack group buy?

The stock keycaps are fading pretty fast, so I'll eventually want to replace them.  The white and black engraved ones aren't going to work for me, as I won't be able to read them at night, and I'm probably not going to completely memorize the second layer.  So engraved keycaps with an infill or something would be nice. I'm willing to use an agent, but if I don't see anything I like, I'm also willing to wait.

Can we just clarify what exactly you are looking for.

The Poker has MX switches so there are a wide range of keycaps that will fit the majority of the Poker key locations.

Do you specifically mean you want keycaps which include the Poker's 2nd layer info of the key front?
Obviously those are going to be rarer items.

It is hard for us to know exactly what you are seeking if you aren't super clear about what it is that you do want.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't clearer. I'm looking for good quality keycaps, where the letters won't wear off, with poker 2nd layer legends on them.  I tried searching taobao and armygroup earlier, but I don't think I can search using English text.  I'd think others would be interested in them as well, as engraved are impossible to read in medium to low light situations.

yep i reckon there would be a market for some filled Poker keys.

Got to say for me the fact that the engraved are almost blank are part of the attraction but I agree that not everyone has the same tastes and needs as I do.

I don't know of anyone selling what you are looking for but I hope someone can help.

As far as I know there are only 3 variants with the 2nd layer legend. The abs black with white pad print, pbt black engraved, pbt black with pinkish infill. Honestly my suggestion is to memorize the 2nd layer keys that are important to you, and keep the keymap sheet under your keyboard, inside your drawer or whatever to reference until you can remember them all. That way you can get any standard ansi keycap that suit you.

Hmm, I recall now iMav had photos of the ones with the pink infill in the first group buy, but in those photos they lacked legends. I also think the pink hue was due to poor color correction, or something to that effect.

I'm kind of memorizing some of the second layer, but it'll be more difficult with some of the less used layered keys.

They really look pink, and it does have the 2nd layer legend. Whether that is a look you like or not is up to you.
