Good question!

I have only tried the variable and it seems to me that a [strike]constant[/strike] uniform 45gm silent would be even closer to my preferred Topre.
For those who have tried is the difference noticeable enough to somewhat compensate for the extra $200?

Nothing can really justify the price of Topre boards IMO but that doesn't mean I won't buy them (all of them maybe) but am very interested in the experiences of those who have tried them and can really compare.

Type-S is my favorite. Uniform 45g and silent. Would probably be pretty awesome in tenkeyless form, i.e. 87U Silent and all 45g.

I keep hearing about the Topre. I am about to pick up a Cherry Blue Filco. I don't even know how to go about looking at the Topres for purchase. Without an ability to return and such a high price I am lost.

Some people have said they are the best for typing...I am using a Model M for $90 and it's pretty damn good lol. I'd like to try one but which one I have no idea...

Where do you live? There might be a fellow GHer willing to let you defile their RF.

The Realforce 87UW 45G uniform is gone from elite keyboards.

Providence, Rhode Island. Boston is nearby but everyone in RI is on drugs and are not into keyboards. Not a joke.

@Deverica Wolf
It's not a great answer but if you were to buy a new Topre and found it wasn't for you there would be no trouble selling it on (through GH or elsewhere) for $50 less than you paid new (on GH it would go within an hour at that markdown).

So you are only really gambling $50.

I have a RF and I like the Torpe switches but not as much as the Cherry switches.

But it is tactile and quiet so I use it at work where I have to accommodate people who have been able to convince the bosses that them talking garbage at deafening volume all day is not disturbing to me at all but my keystrokes are the equivalent of me hitting them in the face with a tambourine as far as being annoying to them.

I think if you have ever had a brand new amazingly good RD board then you have a good idea what a Torpe switch feels like. Torpe are nicer than that and will still feel nice when the RD is starting to sag but they are not as different from a very good RD as a Cherry blue is different (for example).

All I can say is if you are interested you need to get one, use it for a month and see if it is for you. If it's not for you then I am 100% sure you will be able to sell it on for most of what you have paid and you'll never need to wonder again.

Thank you. Yeah, I thought of that after I posted. I am not selfish...if something is not for me, I can give someone a good deal. :frog:

I like the way that sounds! Haha...

I am personally looking for something as close to my Model M in a Tenkeyless as possible...maybe a bit lighter than a Model M. While Blue Switches are not exactly like them, what else is there? I love the click sound.

I hate normal Rubber Domes. My Brown Switch to me feels just like a better made Rubber Dome. But that's me...

Cherries are where I'm at right now because I use them for typing and gaming and plan to mod. It's my world. I think I will stick with them for now. :amen:

And they are your fingers and that's what matters.

Based on that I am going to guess that Torpe would not be your thing and you can save the $50 and put it towards a new Cherry or BS board or some new keycaps or whatever.

If Browns are too similar to RD for your taste then I am 90% certain you will be underwhelmed and/or disappointed by Topres.

Yeah, they are not my favorite. They are too light for me. But they are a gift for my mom so they will be something different when I come over to her place.

I like the bump, though, but I want it to be a MUCH heavier bump. I want to try Clears, or Ergo/Panda Clears. I like a heavyish key for typing. Blacks are too easy to press despite their heaviness, I find.

Your advice is great. Thanks. :clap2:

I highly rate the silent Realforce.  I had two regular RealForces - full sized and TKL and sold them both.  They were nice but I still liked the Cherry Reds better.  Now that I have the silent TKL RealForce - it's my daily workhorse and I flip back and forth through my Cherry Reds at home for leisure typing.

I don't know if the silent RealForce actually has a lighter feel but it just might give that impression due to being so quiet.  For me it is so much better than the regular RealForce.  I've only had the variable keys so I cannot speak to the uniform keys. I like the variable weight keys and wouldn't care to even try the uniform switches.

So overall my favorites are the silent RealForce and my Poker with Reds.
Current in order of preference:  RealForce 87U Silent White with variable weighted keys X 2, Filco Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless with Linear Reds, Filco Number-pad, Poker with Linear Reds

Sold or returned:  Multiple Microsoft and Logitech keyboards, Das Keyboard Silent, Cherry 6140, RealForce 103UB, RealForce 86U, Filco Majestouch 2 full sized with Linear Reds
