Filco with red switches or similar?
« on: Tue, 20 September 2011, 15:42:38 »
Hi,

Last week I got my first mechanical keyboard, a Filco Majestouch 2 Tenkeyless with Cherry MX Browns. Love it very much already. :)

I may be interested in getting a keyboard with red switches or a similar one (I only know about cherry switches). It seems that the Filco Majestouch with Red switches has been discontinued :( Or does anyone know where to get them?

If not, what would be a similar keyboard? My only requirements are: Cherry MX Red or similar switches, Tenkeyless, UK layout, good build quality. Nothing else matters really.

Thanks.

Leopolds at EK have  red-switches so you might find them to be very enjoyable. I mean, based on what I've read on this forum, the Leopold was designed by pretty much the same guy and uses the filco chip, with some modifications. The Leopold is also very easy to unplug since it has a detachable USB cable. You might like it, just be wary of the stabilizers on the enter backspace shift, etc keys. They are switch stabilizers and not the wire-based ones, which pretty much sum up to: You won't hear the bottoming out as well on the enter and bacskpace keys (etc) as much on the Leopolds compared to say the Das Keyboard.

Thanks for the suggestion, the Leopolds do look good and very similar to Filcos, however it doesn't look like they sell a Tenkeyless one with Red switches, nor one with a UK layout.

You could look into MX Blacks? Although heavier, they are linear and I know Filco sells a TKL version. Leopold also has TKL version with Blacks if you prefer them as well.

Yes I might have to go with blacks. I haven't tried blacks or reds, but reds sound better to me though, not sure why they are so rare. I will probably keep looking for a red one for a while and if I can't find one I'll go with blacks.

Nope!

Are you saying there are no boards that meet those criteria? Damn.

You'll have to loosen your requirements. MX Red, TKL and UK Layout are pretty tough. Let only the MX Red and a world of possibilities opens.

There is a board that meets your requirements but unless your in asia it's going to be really pricey to ship http://www.armygroup.com.tw/shop/goods.php?id=6978
