I have a Northgate Omnikey 101 - Is it worth selling?
« on: Fri, 14 October 2011, 22:02:53 »
I found this thing in my parents basement, along with some fun accessories like a Northgate keypuller, extra Esc key, and original receipt (it cost US $86.00 in 1992, lol). My dad raves about how this was the best keyboard he ever had. He doesn't use it because he hasn't worked on anything but a laptop for years, and I don't like it because I find the clicking distracting and the force required to press each key a bit fatiguing for my hands. Everything works though. White ALPS switches, double shot keycaps, and built like a rock. Question is, is it worth any money?

If there is still interest in these things I'd be willing to sell it. I'm kind of interested in getting one of those WASD keyboards, since the ability to customize anything is like crack for me (art major, yeah.). Plus I'm curious what the Cherry brown switches are like.

thanx yall

Short answer: yes, if it is functional.

Longer answer: yes, assuming you can find someone interested in it. Is it standard ANSI or different in any way? Are all of the keys in good shape and consistent? These are the sorts of questions that buyers may ask.

Pictures and more details are appreciated, as well.

I have pictures, but I'm not allowed to post links or attachments because this account is too new I guess. If anyone is interested in seeing pics please PM me.

In the meantime I'll do my best to elaborate. Functionally it works great, some grease in the right areas might do it good, but everything is mechanically sound. Cosmetically there are a few things; a few of the keys show some slight yellowing (maybe 6 or so), and there is a light black mark on the right side by the indicator lights, though that may come out yet with some cleaner. I took it apart and gave it a once over cleaning, so it's nice and clean inside and out minus a few blemishes.
