White Filco Tenkeyless Ninja MX Brown Problem
« on: Thu, 20 October 2011, 17:28:04 »
Just received my new keyboard a couple of minutes ago and it seems the spacebar sticks once depressed and does not return full back into reset position. Is there a simple fix for this or should I return my board to amazon?

Check that all the stabilizer parts are fully seated.  If you're not familiar with replacing a keycap on Costar stabilizers then check out some videos of it then remove the spacebar and check that it's not the switch itself that is sticking.

I want to be sure that I am reading this correctly: Your spacebar, when pressed, does not come up on its own AT ALL or it does not go up ALL THE WAY?

If it doesn't come up at all, your stabilizers are in backwards.

I ran into this when putting WYSE keycaps on

It does not come all the way up 50% of the time and requires slightly greater force to depress down.

That was one of the things I was trying to arrive at with deduction but it appears that isn't the problem.

Dunno. A spacebar shouldn't come new backwards right?

This is what I'm experiencing.

Weird..you might want to remove the spacebar and reseat it or maybe add some grease to the stablizers.

Is this right out of the box? If so, return it. Simple as that.

Just the take spacebar off and troubleshoot it a little. Not worth the shipping costs if the problem is simple. I think I know exactly what the problem is.

1. Take the key off
2. Check the switch itself. The action should be smooth like your other keys. (Take off another key and test that switch directly to compare if needed.)
     a. IF the switch is bad, RMA it.
3. The inserts should be pointing towards the top of the keyboard with the spacebar facing down, but like RColinTaylor said, probably not the issue.
4. Look at the black clips that hold the stabilizer bar. There is one on each end. You'll see two black tabs that stick out perpendicular to the base plate. I bet one of these clips is slightly warped and the space between the tabs is closer on one, or even both sides. This would case the tabs to "grab" onto the inserts instead of just guiding them up and down. Just bend the tabs apart and hold it in the position for a few seconds. Repeat if necessary. This should open up the gap and allow the key to travel freely. Not critical, but you can grease it as well.

Pretty sure 4. is going to be your solution.

Nice one WASD!  I'm putting this into the Cherry MX wiki.

I hope you don't mind that I edited the last "sticky keys" link that was added to the Wiki. It read some thing like "Fixing Sticky Keys by WASD Keyboards" which I'm afraid people will see as "fixing sticky keys on keyboards from WASD Keyboards." I just took out the WASD Keyboards part. :D

I'm just curious to see if this fixes the OP's problem. I've seen this in several of my keyboards during assembly as those clips are pretty soft.

It ended up not being the stabilizer but the switch. Possibly damaged during shipping. There were 2x airbags in the box to protect the keyboard, but definitely not enough to prevent all the shifting around in the box.

Darn, I really thought it was the clip as I still haven't seen a bad switch after going through a couple hundred of keyboards. Well, at least you got to the source of the problem. :)
