Looking to buy a Leopold in Canada
« on: Thu, 10 November 2011, 19:51:31 »
Hey Guys,

I'm looking to buy a Leopold keyboard from http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless&pid=fc200rtab as they seem to be the only best option for me living in Newfoundland, Canada,  I tried seeing if Amazon.com would ship to me a Filco Ninja Tenkeyless but they won't ship to Canada.  The shipping on the Leopold seems pretty crazy, an extra 30 bucks which almost equals up to a filco, so i'm just wondering what advice anyone would have to trying to obtain one here in Canada.  I also tried checking out Leopolds actual website to see if I could order right from there but it is in Korean only.

Any ideas?

It costs $30usd to ship a keyboard to Canada via USPS, doesn't matter whether it's a used Cherry board off eBay or a nice new Leopold from EK.  Unfortunately that's the price we have to bear as Canadians. :(
Currently GMMK Pro: lubed 68g U4T, FR4 plate, extra gaskets, etc

Partly due to the weight of the keyboards themselves.. Unforutnately all mechanicals within the basic price range will all be above $140 once you factor shipping. with that in mind, I just went to NCIX and picked up my Das... at least with this option I have local support if something happens.

If you really want to consider it, might as well go with WASD, get some custom keycaps as well right?

There a few people from Canada selling their filco keyboard under the classifieds section... I think. Go have a look.

This would be my suggestion.  Alternatively, you can wait for someone like Armygroup or PCHome to have a deal on shipping.  When I bought my Filco earlier this year it was cheaper to ship from Taiwan to Canada than from EK to Canada.  Go figure.  That and the EMS-class parcel from TW cleared customs with no additional charges.  I've NEVER had anything valued over $25 come through customs from the US without having the HST + brokerage added on.  I would assume that incoming parcels from the US may be handled by a different group in Canada Post than packages from everywhere else and the US team is more "on the ball" with adding all the extra fees they can.
