Help sourcing bolt-mod parts in Australia
« on: Mon, 05 December 2011, 15:38:56 »
Hello all,

With the acquisition of my second Model M, I decided it was time to bolt mod. Unlike my first Model M, my latest one had the tell-tale rattle of broken rivets. Sure enough, when I opened it there were around 15 broken ones.

Thanks to several guides/articles on here I'm well on the way to completing the mod. I've removed all the rivets, cleaned everything and am pretty much ready to drill.

The problem is I can't seem to course the right sized nuts and bolts anywhere! I've tried 4 different hardware stores near me but the answer is always the same- "that's smaller than we stock"

I attempted to order online from McMaster-Carr, but they've just emailed me to say that "due to the complexity of U.S export regulations they only accept orders from exisiting international customers" Hmph. I wonder how these customers ever became existing customers in the first place!

Can anyone suggest where I might be able to order what I need? As per the guides on here, what I'm after is:

-Metric Pan Head Phillips Machine Screw, Zinc-Plated Steel, M2 Size, 8MM Length, .4MM Pitch
-Metric Plain Steel Hex Nut, Class 6, M2 Size, .4 mm Pitch, 4MM W , 1.6MM H

Thanks

Yes, we certainly aren't third world. Being as compatitively isolated as we are has pros and cons though. I suspect in this case its just that what I'm asking for is a little bit unusual (in terms of what a typical hardware stocks/sells) and I may need to look for a more specialised distributor.

I was kind of hoping it would be as easy as going to the local hardware though!

Out of interest, what part(s) of Australia did you visit? It's a big place after all :-)

I'm gonna be placing a order for a bunch of bolt/nuts from McMaster for a handful of bolt mods I need to do. I can order whatever you need and ship it over in a bubble mailer for probably $3 in shipping.

I may be able to help you.

Just PM'd you.
"We are on the precipice of signing an agreement to advance talks with Iran that preserves the good parts of former President Barack Obama’s Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) while amplifying its flaws.
Mr. Obama came to an agreement that did not involve America’s most precious treasure, the lives and limbs of our soldiers.  The 1.7 billion dollars of frozen Iranian assets released by Obama pales in comparison to the 300 billion being floated as a rebuilding fund.
So far, speculation that Iran will be free in the future to continue its nuclear program is the opposite of Trump’s stated goal for the war and in direct opposition to what Mr. Obama negotiated.
