RMA Nightmares [WARNING: Possible Anger!]
« on: Thu, 01 December 2011, 12:35:31 »
Do you have any RMA nightmares? Post 'em up!

Right now I'm going through one with a big chassis manufacture over a ****ing stupid 10 cent plastic fan filter. lol

I've been trying to get that silly little part for 10 weeks now. I even asked if I could just purchase the thing and get it the hell over with...but no dice. You think a company that sold me **** would want to sell me more ****! lol

Ok, ok, that is more of an annoyance than a nightmare so.....

A few years back I had a laptop that I took in to get a failing fan replaced. Sounds simple, right? Yeah, I know what you're thinking; it turned into a 3 month long Charley Foxtrot. In retrospect, I would have opened it up and replaced the thing myself, but at the time was worried about voiding my warranty. Now I just build my own. :p

Day one, took laptop into ****ty big box store (rhymes with "suture flop")

A week or two later I get it back, start it up and the fan is fixed but the screen is totally FUBAR, almost monochrome.

Back to the store I go. I thank them for doing a nice job replacing the fan but what the heck is going on with my display? So....

....Another week or two goes by....

...Back to the store to get my machine, guy hands it to me and I'm totally shocked at the condition of the thing. The shell looks as if it has been slid across a concrete floor, long deep gouges, totally damaged.  "What the hell have you done to my $2000 laptop?" (this was over 10 years ago: 600 mhz, 64MB RAM, 4GB HDD lol)

I basically tell the guy that's he's crazy if he thinks I'm taking this thing back. So after some talking to the "manager" I get a replacement (I had the full blown extended warranty).

Get that one home and it was a piece of junk (Compaq) and it was not nearly the same quality as what I originally had....so after some more arguing and wrestling with this manager finally they agree to get me the same brand name and slight upgrade sent up from another store in Toronto.

So now we're at about 2.5 months and the thing finally comes up from Toronto. I go home, open it up to format the drive and install a fresh Windows 98. I try to put the floppy disk (lol!!!) in and the ****ing door/flap is busted off and jammed way back inside the god damned drive!!! I'm ****ing furious at this moment. I call that cabbage at the store and take the thing back...AGAIN!

Eventually that got fixed and everything was over, done, but not forgotten. It was a wild ride and the last time I bought a computer from that store.
