Attention All TG3 PoPo Special Owners! Try this mod!

Don't toss those splash guards! I finally got around to testing a switch mod with the TG3 splash guard, and the initial results are very interesting. As you might know, the police / rugged version of the TG3 backlit keyboards have a spash guard which also acts as a rubber dome sheet that overlays the Cherry Black key switches. Now, as originally intended this results in a rubber dome / mechanical hybrid with good tactility and a VERY high activation force. HOWEVER, if you take those rubber domes and fit them over other Cherry switches, they feel a lot better! So far, I've tried dome + Ghetto Reds, dome + Blues, and dome + Black stem without spring. The dome + Blues feels very unique, sharply tactile, while the dome + Black stems without spring results in a *very* low activation force with soft tactile feel!

More info to come in the mods section.

Splashguand over switches without springs sounds quite interesting! I'll wait for your article, hopefully it includes force measurements :-)

Well, my enthusiasm has been curbed somewhat. First off, with the rubber sleeve as is, the activation force it contributes is pretty high, around 55g or so. If you shave off about a millimeter of the rubber at the top of the sleeve, you reduce the force to around 42g, but you also loose a bit of travel because the keycap will no longer fully rebound. Also, if you want to make it work with normal keycaps, you have to shave the top of the sleeve off even more, so you end up loosing more travel as well. At this point, I'd say there are too many caveats for this to be worth my while.

For sadists: if you turn the rubber sleeve inside out and then attach it to the keycap, you'll make your switch feel just like Cherry MYs.

Sounds like TS still prefers rubber dome.

Suggestion: save money for a uniform 45g Topre. Problem solved.
