I was already humming Far over the misty mountains cold when I saw this thread, but then, I have been humming it almost all the time for the last few days ...
Next year, I don't know if I will be waiting in line with my friends for three days and three nights, in cold winds, snow and rain with only a tarp and a sleeping bag for shelter just to get some tickets to the back row of the theater on opening night, as I did eight years ago ... but oh, I so want to relive the experience of seeing a movie based on a Tolkien book on opening night. I had been dressed up as Gandalf the White. It had taken quite some work to sew and embroider the garments, engrave the brooch and build the staff.
The year before, for the The Two Towers premiere, I had dressed up in a pleated brown wool robe, light blue pointed hat (out of fabric) and a staff that I had just improvised together with a spiral of papiér maché on top. Eerie that Gandalf's staff in the Hobbit movie should also have what looks like a spiral of paper in the crown ...
I have only the hat... and it needs strengthening. Should I spend the time on making an accurate replica costume, and a new staff? hmm...
