Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums, so I'll start by saying that I've lurked here for a few days while pondering a keyboard conundrum of sorts and finally (after being unable to get responses at other forums I frequent) created an account to see if anyone can answer my questions here.

See, I have a problem. I'm currently typing on a very plasticky keyboard I bought for about 200 Swedish Kronor (about €20 or $28). It's flat, which is nice, but I really dislike how typing on it feels; it's very tiring to type on for any longer period of time. I wish to buy a new keyboard, but the combination of wanting something flat and something tactile and nice to type on does make it hard to find something.
Then I discovered the Cherry ML switches, which seem to be just what I want, but actually finding a good keyboard that uses them proved harder than I thought it would be - at first I looked at the Cherry G84-4100, but the wonky layout was pretty off-putting, but now I've been looking at the Cherry XS Complete G84-5200, but it doesn't seem to be very common. Does anyone have any experience with it and care to share impressions? There's only one Swedish retailer that has it, and it sells for 927 SEK (about €100/$130). Is it worth it for someone who really wants a good, flat keyboard that will last and is nice to type on?

I've also been looking at the QPad MK80 Pro with MX Blue switches. I like how the switches feel, but I really don't like typing on normal keyboards that don't have flat, laptop-style keys. I suppose I could buy one and try to get used to using a taller keyboard, but I seldom bottom out on the flat one I'm currently using, so my typing style isn't really fit for taller keycaps. :P

So, TL;DR: I want a flat mechanical keyboard that feels nice to type on. Any experiences with Cherry ML? Also, MX Blues are nice but I dislike the taller keycaps.

I owned an ML board for a while and hated it.

When you hit the keys off center they stick - a fatal flaw for a keyswitch.

I'd recommend getting a decent laptop style scissor switch board over MLs.

Got any recommendations for really good scissor switch boards? Preferably ones that don't feel plasticky and flimsy.

Hmm. I happen to love my Cherry ML board. For me, the sweet spot is to type lightly (for me) on it...I get a smooth response out of it, and key binding is minimal. Of course, that's my own experience...

Hm, yeah, it seems like a polarizing issue. :D I type very lightly, so maybe I'd have a good experience with it? How would you describe the "feel" of the switches?

I suppose I could buy one and return it if I don't like it. Luckily, the one retailer that stocks them has a pretty good return policy. :)

none of them are going to weigh anywhere close to a mechanical keyboard. check the wiki. i'd buy a logitech.
