Hi guys,
I've experienced ping and fixed it. First of all, I think that pinging and ringing are totally different.
As you showed in the original post, Solutor's video is what I'd describe as pinging
And this is ringing (only video I can find on it):
In my experience (only with Cherry MX Filcos), not every mechanical keyboard pings, and those that do will ping on 1 or 2 keys, but not the whole board. However, all mechanical keyboards, or at least all Filcos will ring, as you're probably aware. This is due to the nature of the boards and the springs inside them. BUT, some Filcos will ring, or echo like the inside of a guitar, more than others. Some boards you will only hear the ringing when your ear is right up against the board, and others you will hear it with headphones on, listening to music, and resting the keyboard on some material.
Back to the topic at hand: fixing these problems. For me, I had one key that pinged, just like Solutor's, and I fixed it by taking off the keycap, removing the switch stem (the blue, brown, whatever coloured cross thing), and replacing the spring. If I knew how to solder, I'd have done that because my method involved a lot of... brute force. My spring was bent and crooked which is what I assume caused the pinging, at least for me. I replaced the stem and spring with brand new ones. I think the issue has something to do with the spring not being seated properly or being bent.
As for the loud ringing, I have no idea how to fix. It does get better with time, but will not ever get as good as a regular Filco, and it's really distracting.
Finally, I really don't believe in that McRip Effect stuff. I've used two Filcos side by side and one was noticeable more 'ringy' and 'echoy'.
Sorry for poor grammar, sentence structure, and/or spelling.
