Looking for a Cherry G80-3494-ish
« on: Sun, 13 May 2012, 23:14:39 »
So, here's the deal. I like the look and layout of this keyboard. But apparently this particular model number is Cherry MX Reds, which I do not want. Also, I don't need a Chinese layout :P

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cherry-G80-3494LYCRC-2-Cherry-MX-Red-Linear-Mechanical-Switch-Keyboard?item=140749571400&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8401677860866998497#ht_500wt_1413

Anyone know what model has this same look, layout but with MX Browns? And if you happen to have one, hit me with a PM.

Thanks!

You can snag a G80-3000 with Browns, which is pretty much identical, but with no chinese layout (standard ANSI). Although the vast majority of G80-3000s that are easy to find nowadays have blues.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.

Aye, but there are many G80-3xxx. I need to know the numbers/letters at the end of 3xxx that makes it a brown switch, with that layout.

Thanks!

Blue switches might also be acceptable, and I would probably mod it to clears in that case.

Well, mine is a G80-3000LSCEU-2
Breaking it down, The L means you have lasered keys, not doubleshot.
The SC is the switch type, I think. I think something like X is browns?
The EU is the layout. The EU is actually standard ANSI, but the 5 key, or maybe the 4, has a euro symbol on it. No idea how to get to it.
The -2 means it's black.
All this is in a wiki somewhere.

I snagged mine off an eBay auction. I may be convinced to part with it, however. They're tough to get in America now, apparently, though the WW shopping finds it here. Not too difficult!

That one is close, but not looking for the funky enter key :)

Still trying to find a cherry board with browns I can figure out exactly what brown switch appendix it uses.

Thanks!

That picture isn't accurate. I'm typing on the exact model they have listed, and it's got the regular bar enter.

G80-3494LYCUS-0/2 = red (I own a black one)
G80-3484HKCUS = brown AND doubleshot (I don't like browns, but if I did I would get this one)
G80-3000LQCEU-0/2 = clears (I own a black one)
etc...

The 3 numbers after G80-3 (ex. 494 and 484) are special edition variants of the standard G80-3000. Standard G80-3000 variants leave the zeros alone.
The five letters tell us what keycaps, switches, connection, and region layout (language) this keyboard is of it's variant. RC as the last 2 letters is Chinese region layout (language) if I remember correctly.
The last number is either 0 for a white keyboard or 2 for a black keyboard.

Avoid G80-3800 models. They are made in the Chinese factory.

Oh and I murder NIB brown boards on a regular basis. They're good for doubleshot and switch scrounging. I sell them back to people as parts for a profit.

I haven't had a single problem with my G80-3000. And considering how many things are made in Chinese factories these days, I wouldn't let that get in the way. They're nice, affordable boards.

Only the G80-3800 models are made in china. They are cheaper, but also made cheaper.

Thank you for this info. Been searching for the G80-3484HKCUS, to no avail. I guess the DS keycaps aren't a huge deal. It would just be nice to get everything in one place, and not have to search for them later.
Would also consider clears. I have a Poker with ergo clears and I love it.

You have to order the G80-3484HKCUS from china like almost every other board. How else do you think I got my G80-3494LYCUS-2 and G80-3000LQCEU-2?

I just looked at your feedback and realized YOU were the one who outbid me for the glowcaps...

If you give up on the G80-3484HKCUS you could always get a G80-3000LQCEU-0/2 from my source. http://www.discountdigitaltop.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=cherry

They sell these boards right now:
G80-3000LSCXX-0
G80-3000LQCEU-0
G80-3000LSCEU-0
G80-3000LXCEU-0
G80-3000LPCEU-0
G80-3000LSCEU-2
G80-3000LQCEU-2

Second letter is switch color. S=blue, Q=clear, X=brown, P=black (I hope I remembered all those correctly).
