Howdy guys!

I was just wondering what your guys opinion is on this keyboard:

http://cgi.ebay.com/CHERRY-ML4100-Ultraslim-PS-2-Keyboard-G84-4101SPAUS-/160436248876?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item255abee12c

It is a Cherry ML4100 Ultraslim... According to Cherrys website this one has mech keys... What do you guys think?

decent small mech keyboard. Maybe can be called cheap starter mech keyboard, great for traveling since it's small and portable (over a 222$ HHKB) but imo not great as a daily driver, better than rubber domes tho.

I quite like these, I have 3 of them, typing on one right now. As other people have said they are quite good as a portable board, but probably not the best thing for a main keyboard.

Ripster - how about a review?

I like my ML board, it's what you might think of if someone made a laptop w/ a mechanical keyboard.  It has a short travel with a slight, but noticeable bump.  I like the keyfeel, but the layout isn't really good for a daily driver.  It's pretty darn cramped and the modifiers are tiny.  There are better options unless you want something light that's easy to carry around.

Apparently DealExtreme has them...not sure what they're called. You'd have to ask ripmeister. He was begging someone to buy it forever until he finally gave up and got one himself.

Nah, just teasing.  Sometimes it seems GH contributions are a full time job for ripster.  Give him some time off!

I have a couple of extra ML boards with trackball to sell if anyone is interested. PM for more info. FWIW my least favorite thing about these boards is the layout, not the switch. I can never adapt to "enter" being one key further to the right. I'm keeping one, but the other two are up for grabs. Oh yeah, trackball has been upgraded from cheap light plastic ball to heavier "marble" type ball.

The trackball version is probably the ML G84-4400 or maybe the newer G84-5400 (slightly different layout), of course we don't have a clue about the quality and the look of the new trackball marble

My issue was the right shift, just couldn't hit it for some reason... Strange as it is...

I've never touched a g84, but because I'm curios i bought one of them (a 4100 one) for  few bucks and I'm waiting its arrival.

If I like it i will buy a 5200 one: i like a lot its layout.

Images attached.  These are the units with the better trackball instead of the light plastic garbage included from Cherry.
