Keyboard backlighting mod?
« on: Sat, 14 January 2012, 05:29:40 »
Not necessarily sure where to put this but I recently bought a Leopold Tenkeyless keyboard with Cherry MX Clears and I was wondering if there is a guide/reference I can use to mod my keyboard with backlighting? Not necessarily for the keys themselves but just around the and under the keys. Is it also possible to actually place invidiaul LED's under each key and a place I can buy keycaps that may be used for this sort of stuff?

Possible to LED mod it. Some ppl in China mod their Noppoo Choc Mini to with LED on each switch.
As the keyboard don't have predrilled holes for LED mounting on the PCB, you had to do the connections(of LED) in between the steel plate and the PCB(not sure if the spots been taken by diodes). Of course you first need to desolder all switches and seperate the PCB from steel plate.

In short, hell lots of jobs needed to be done. Buy another backlit keyboard or Neo Zelia 87 or KBC Poker or Razer BWE should be a better/easier option as their having predrilled holes on PCB for LED mounting.

For backlit keycaps, currently no much available. The only option I can think of is those white back-lit keycaps for KBT Race. Details check the sticky.

now that's ghetto.  there's a reason that isn't posted on geekhack.  i'd say we'd have fallen if we start posting those kinds of mods around here.

hmm, el wire, possible to affect the key switches travel. Only use them if you find really thin one.
