Nice surprise with my new Cherry G84-4100 keyboard!
« on: Thu, 26 January 2012, 19:18:30 »
So I finally received them today...I open up the box, and they they are, wearing one of those tight rubber protection key covers...But wait, what is this? I thought these were gonna be white!

Turns out that both units are in a cool industrial gray! The hue is warmer than what the pic shows--they look great, and they nicely match mu very old Logitech trackball:

I had never seen these keyboards in this color...I think they look awesome, maybe even better than black or white. I was happy that I was getting the keyboards today, but now I'm even happier. Nice surprise.

My 4100s I got who-knows-where-years-ago-before-I-knew-about-all-this-mech-board-stuff are one in that industrial colour and one in typical beige.  I love the grey too.  Unfortunately, someone desoldered the Fn switch from that one.  (What is wrong with some people?)  I'd love to get a switch and cap for it someday and replace it.

What you got, jkercado, are SPAUS models. The first 'S' says the key caps are sublimated, which is not so common for G84-4100. I have 3 tampo printed, they are PPAUS,  and 3 laser etched, LPAUS and LCAUS. I like better the lasered ones, for the printed caps will fade in a few years. The sublimated caps will last a long time.

I just got mine in the mail today too. Both of mine came in the same color also. I starting the like the feel of these switches. The compact layout will take some time getting use to. The backspace is pretty small. Add me to the g84-4100 club.

Thanks jkercado.  The pacificgeek seller on ebay is the one who has the SPAUS model?  Thanks.

Thanks alaricljs.  But I think jkercado was able to buy 2 for $30 shipped on ebay.  I want to try that route, but there is no pacificgeek seller on ebay that I can find.  Is it this one?  http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS2-Mini-Footprint-Cherry-ML4100-/260934804267

Same non-cherry part number on the listing and at pacificgeek.  Wonder how he got 2 for 1, although they have a regularly updated 2 for 1 deal page the ML4100 isn't on it.

Maybe pacificgeek is the same as CSO (ComputerSurplusOutlet) on ebay?  Both are in Nevada.

They had a few keyboards available for $19.99 with free shipping, but had the "Make An Offer" button available, so I put in 2 X $30. The offer was accepted ten minutes later!

Looking at my auction link, yep, that's it...They bumped the price and got rid of accepting offers! Apparently they realized what they had...

This auction is $29.99 free shipping, but does accept offers.  Is it the same as what you are seeing?  You just mentioned yours now doesn't accept offers any more.  I just want to make sure I buy from the same seller to get the dye sub keycaps :-).  Thanks.

That's the price they had originally. Why have two auctions? Odd. I'm not doubting their reputation as seller, my experience with them was good.

They all wear condoms, so use should be OK, right?  jkercado, what is the condition of your grey ones when you received them?

I gotta say that once I removed the key condom :becky: they are basically in new condition. Perfectly clean, crips keys. One of them did have wobbly legs, but I use my keyboard flat anyway, so I went ahead and took 'em off. But there's not a single stain or blemish--it seems that they got wrapped up straight out of the box.
