Emerson 84-key AT/XT Problem

Years ago someone gave me an Emerson XT computer system. While the PC is long gone I still have the keyboard and CGA monitor, but it is the keyboard this post is about obviously. I recently dug it out of storage and I would like to use it on my modern PC, but the auto-switch feature does not seem to be working as it remains stuck in XT mode. Here is some info and a few photos:

Emerson Model No: KFCLEA916A
ALPS Yellow, Double shot keys
Controller: Intel P8049AH





It has clearly had very little use, looks new and feels fine as far as ALPS go, though the key caps seem more jiggly than usual. Anyway aside from buying or making a converter of some type, is there any way to get it to detect my computer properly (or vice versa)? I tried it on an older Pentium system and it switched into AT mode just fine. My current system isn't the newest, an Athlon 64 X2, but as I mentioned the keyboard stays in XT mode on it and therefore doesn't work at all. I connected it to the PS/2 port through an AT-PS/2 adapter. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, I powered off completely before plugging it in. The XT Power LED comes on and it makes a continuous clicking sound as if someone was holding down a key. I've checked it and it works fine on older PCs so it must be something about my motherboard that it doesn't like. I get no keyboard errors though, but it doesn't function at all.

Hmmm I have an old 1st revision Focus 2001(AT/XT) from '88 that has similar problems I believe. I have never tested it on an XT machine but the guy who sold it to me said it was working but I couldn't get it to work on any of my PC's.
