CM Quickfire USB connector is not at right size
« on: Sat, 25 February 2012, 08:27:57 »
I just got my CM Quickfire with blue switch yesterday. I love its build from the moment I took it out. it feels tight and sturdy, even the ABS key caps and plastic cover feel great. The cover has some kind of coating, makes it feel like microsuede, comparing to my Cherry G80-1800 with light black switch.

The only problem I have is its USB cord. The size of the USB connector is too big. Every time I try to plug it in to a computer I have to push and squeeze the connector. Even though it is not completely fit like other device. There is still metal part left behind. I am just wondering if this happens to other Quickfire owners.

Mines just a little bit above average resistance to plug in. There isn't any metal left behind I don't think.

Same a kwang2009 and there's definitely something in the keyboards surface and i'm not just talking about the keycaps. It's like everything is covered in grease. *shrugs

Grease? No that didn't happen with my cmstorm qfr, and I haven't heard of it before. Did you get that keyboard shipped? Maybe they did something wrong in the shipping?

Regarding the issue with the USB i think its because it is just new.

He talking about that soft touch rubbery coating... some people just don't like that.

It's like your mouse rubberized covering.
Yep, this is what I meant. But hope the coating won't peel off like my mouse skin. I guess I can live with the tight USB connector.

I aslo found that tying on Quickfire is not as comfortable as on my Cherry g80-1800. Cheery really does a good job on ergonomics. With the palm area, it makes typing a lot easier for me.

The keycaps don't bother me actually. It's mainly something in the body, it's just soft and less crisp to the touch?! that's what i meant with the grease thing, no deal breaker. :p

I have a USB micro DS card reader that's like that, it's so tight that it's almost impossible to push into my USB ports, and getting it out is really difficult, especially as it's tiny so it's hard to get a grip on the thing.

A suggestion: some USB devices like mp3 players and wifi dongles come with a very short USB extension lead because they are so wide that they block access to adjacent ports if plugged in directly. I believe they come with these extensions so that they can claim to be USB compliant.
If you find one of these extensions (they are very short, like 4-5") you could plug your keyboard into it and leave it attached. It would only make the lead a few inches longer, and you wouldn't have to worry about damaging your keyboard/USB ports when plugging and unplugging.
