Looking for a quality backlit keyboard
« on: Mon, 02 April 2012, 05:30:51 »
I'm looking for a quality backlit keyboard. I'm open to 75% to full size. But it must have a backlight.

I have tried blue, black and red switches. Of the three there is really no contest to what I prefer, it is the blues.

So I'm looking for Blues, but I could do Brown/Clear as the noise really isn't an issue with me one way or the other.

I't seems like every keyboard has poor key caps as they all seem to wear out relativity fast. I'm not really down to spend $150 on a keyboard then another $75 on some quality key caps. Does any keyboard manufacture sell keyboards with good key caps already on them? I've heard that Deck's key caps are bullet proof, but I'm not really sure that I'm interested in a Deck.

Regarding build quality. I'm looking for a solid feeling keyboard with preferably no flex. Would also not mind getting one with PCB mounted switches, quality stabilizers, etc. if the price didn't break the bank.

The mechanical keyboards that I have tried so far have been the Razer Black Widow Ultimate, Corsair K90 and TG3 BL82B. Of the three I only liked the BWU. Maybe it was due to luck, but of the 30 days that I was in possession of one, it didn't exhibit any of the mechanical issues that I have read about that seem to plagued this keyboard. Well aside from the horrible font and the symbols not being backlit.

I have been looking into the Ducky Shine, Deck Legend, KBT Race amoung others. Which ones seem to be the better backlit keyboards? How does Ducky and KBT fair to their competition?

Oh yeah, and if you want backlit there's no point in planning for a replacement keycap set, unless you just want under-key glow.

KBT Race 75% all the way.  I didn't think I would like a smaller KB but now that I am used to it I use it much more than my Leopold TKL.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The more and more I red up on it, the more and more confused I get :/

KBT Race - I really like the aesthetics of this keyboard. My only complaint is that I do not like the smaller keys used on the side on the keyboard. I would much prefer all of the keys to be the standard size. If there was a 10keyless version of this board, I'l be all over it.
Deck legend - The keys are flat, not sure if that is a bad thing or not. I have heard that the clear switches take a bit too much effort to press and could make it hard to type/game after a while. The size of the keyboard is still a draw back as well.
Ducky Shine - I've read that the stabilizers aren't very good. That some users report the keys clicking/rubbing together?

I'b be sold on a KTB 10keyless backlit, but does anything like that exist? Ducky has a 10 keyless, but not the shine. The CM Storm QuickFire Rapid Pro is reported to be backlit, but only the WASD keys... pointless.
