Hey all,

Currently have a g15 and I think it is time I move on to a mechanical.

I am looking for RED switches in TKL form. However, I have no idea of which to start. I was looking into the Leopold's from EK and the CM storm quick fire (with annoying branding and font....). What other TKL ones are there with reds? Also, which are recommended (from stabliziers to build quality etc).

Thanks!

Anything resembling a Filco(actual filco/CM Storm) will be the first recommendation that you get. Costar stabilizers are better than Cherry(this is generally agreed on) so you will wanna avoid the Leopold if you can drop the cash on the Filco TKL. I own a CM Storm Quick Fire with blues(same branding and such) and I love it. With the money you save getting this you can probably just get replacement keycaps. Its all in your preference.

What is the true difference between the costar and cherry stabilizers? I think I will do CM storm with other keycaps. Do you know of any places with PBT caps OR proper TKL ones (with the see-thru area for the lights on caps lock etc)? Thank you for your help!

EDIT: And do you know caps that will fit properly (such as the WASD ones?)

There's always a noppoo choc mini from qtan (which is a smaller layout). Also red is overhyped as 'the' gaming switch not saying it isn't nice but I highly recommend considering brown if you do typed work at your computer as well as reds can be tiring if you aren't used to their low actuation force as you will probably bottom out alot more while on a brown when typing you will get used to the tactile point, I think from there reds become candy because they are so light. I do however think if you go for CM Storm it's easier to grab their red board atm, they are also cheaper but you will probably want better keycaps eventually.

On stabilizers; Costar almost always are favoured when people have tried cherry. However since this is your first you probably will not care and tbh I can't say there is or isn't a difference as I haven't used a cherry stabalizer board.

Good luck, mechanical will make you cry as to why you used such an awful keyboard for so long.

Edit: Apart from space bars (the majority of 'other keycap sets use filco sized spacebars) and modifiers from say the noppoo. All cherry keycaps fit cherry switches although some keycaps have slightly different height profiles.

I don't really like the choc mini, as it is too small for me, and I want the reds not just for gaming but because they are light. I think i'd get used to the bottoming out (meaning how to prevent it). Are there any other keycap sets other than WASD? I love the WASD keys that the quickfire gives, but like I said I hate the font and such on the keyboard on stock.

I'm having the same dilemma at the moment. I would check the classifieds or just order from WASD. Thats my plan.

The CM QuickFire w/ Reds is an amazing board (I own one). But if you hate the font, just get another set of caps, either from the Classifieds/Group Buys forum, or WASD Keyboards.
