Unlucky ebay streak rant.
« on: Thu, 27 September 2012, 07:12:00 »
The past 10 auctions I bid on, i've lost every one. And I usually get outbid by a few cents!
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251151963015?nma=true&si=mJKZObh%2FomwCmQPEmASWZpYC%2B50%3D&rt=nc&_trksid=p4340.l2557&orig_cvip=true
This particular example above, I lost by 1 dollar. I was equal with an earlier bid but 1 dollar more and it would of been mine.
I fold into pressure so I can't consentrate and usually underestimate the cost.
I really wanted some Honeywell linear boards after my fiasco with the last one I had (broke several of the keys) and I had been patiencly waiting 9 days for this. Same with the $66 F AT. I would of bid more for the F AT if I knew I was going to lose the Honeywell Linear boards. All I can hope for now is that the person that bought it takes care of it and sells it to me when they are finished with them. Also if you have been wondering about the SSK's for $70, the postage has increased for him to send it to me and now it may not be possible to get them due to payment method problems. And since I've got spare time to clean keyboards, none are coming in for me to buy then clean!!! I find myself wasting my time on ebay auctions that are pointless for me to watch. I've got to take a chill pill and calm down.

There are two answers, bid more or use a sniping service.

I didn't snipe in this case because I had an inkling that I would underestimate the cost. I would bid more but I am always watching another Item in the meantime and I won't bid as much as I originally decided on due to me wanting most of the items in my watch list. I really should just focus on one item but I don't want to miss other good deals. Also, watching other items helps in some situations, it takes the grief of missing an item because there is something else for me to buy .

Think of the highest number you would pay for the auction.  That number should be number that if you lost you would think "they paid too much" but if you won you wouldn't have any buyer's remorse.  Come up with that number FIRST.  Then, bid that number a few minutes before the auction closes.

If you don't come up with a number first, you let other people dictate how much you are willing to pay.  That is poor consumer behavior.  You should spend your hard earned money intelligently.

If that was the case I would of only bid $35 for it.  Personally, I don't thing there is such a thing as a "good deal"  on ebay anymore. There are just to many people on it now compared to 10 years ago. Nowadays, you can put an item on there for 99 cents and it will find its price. I keep thinking to myself that nobody else knows about this item, better keep it to myself when there quite a few people who know about it. This is probably why I underestimate my prices.

Doesn't matter how many people are on eBay.  The item will go for (about) its actual value.  If you have no idea what an item is worth, then you probably shouldn't be bidding on it.  I buy a lot of cell phones on eBay.  The prices always end up about where I expect them to.  Even when there are many people after the same phone, they won't spend more than they can pay elsewhere.  Collectors can be different.  They may pay excessive amounts to acquire a rare item.  If you fall into that category, then you probably don't have deep enough pockets.

There is no way of knowing that. When I loose an auction, I like to think that his bid was WAY over mine anyway. If your bid was higher or you would have made a new one, it wouldn't have reached his bid anyway. All that you would have accomplished would have been to make him pay more. That is at least how I try to think to soften the blow.

Idon't know the actual  value of those 3 keyboards above because I've never seen them before. I thought $15 dollars originally because a bulk lot of 5 keyboard of similar style sold for $15 but I was willing to pay $35 originally.

of Ebay said something about being equal with the bid or something so I assume that I could only been a dollar or so of winning the auction.

This might help you out http://www.gixen.com/index.php

I've heard friends talking about it but I've never used it personally. If you do give it a shot, I'd love to hear about your experience.
