SteelSeries Kinza v2 or Kana
« on: Sun, 27 May 2012, 06:42:07 »
I am looking for a new mouse because my Razer Deathadder stopped working. I have had it for about a year and none off the buttons are registering so I had to use my wireless laptop mouse. I am wondering if anyone has used or uses the listed mice? I would like to try these and don't really want another Deathadder since I have only had it for a year and it already stopped working. I should have stopped buying Razer products when their keyboards started giving me problems. Anyhow, feedback about these mice would be greatly appreciated or if you want to recommend a mouse that would be great.

Things to Know:
I use a palm grip.
Deathadder mouse is perfect size.
Cyborg RAT sucks.
Logitech mice are overpriced.

Hmmm.. i dont know how they fair for palmers (im a fingertip guy), but quality wise ive been very pleased with my Roccat Kova+ so thats a brand i would certainly recommend.

Also, do you have a new home for your broken deathadder yet? Im looking for some parts for a friend of mine...

I will have to look into that Roccat Kova+. I really like the looks of it. I didn't even think to keep the mouse and give it to anyone, I already threw it out. Sorry about that. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Haha, no problem. If you liked the shape of the deathadder (angled righty) you might also wanna read into the Kone+, the Kova+ is more like the Lachesis (or however you spell that) in that its straighter/ambidex.

Do keep in mind that these Roccats use ALPs scrollwheels, there's quite some people that don't like those (no problems for me so far yet).

Thanks a lot for the heads up on the scrollwheel.

I think the size of your hand is a good starting point for which one of these two mice you should look at. Lots of other factors to consider as well, obviously. Here's a good video I used that shows how each of the steelseries mice size up against each other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niN1TkYzsbk

They are both pretty small and nice for fingertip grips afaik. I used the Xai which I believe is slightly larger? It was fine for fingertip, but a bit low for palming

Try something like the Zowie EC1

I actually got a great deal on a Logitech mx518 which I was looking at before and I couldn't pass it up for $33 including shipping. Thanks for all your help.

The SteelSeries products have always served me well with 0 issue. Some people have issues with the accel iirc but I didn't notice it.

That's good to know. I think I might still pick up a SteelSeries mouse just because I have only heard good things about them.

I did not like the Kinzu at all. Way too tiny. However, I think I'm in absolute love with the Sensei. It's damn near perfect.

Since TS uses palm grip. Get the newer version of G400 or get the tested and proved G500.

From my experience, the sensor found on the Kana and Kinzu V2 are horrible.

My Sensei should arrive tomorrow.... I can wait to see how it stacks up against my current fav (Kova+), i hope i like it cuz then ill have a mouse i can take with me that actually remembers its setting unlike the Roccat where everything is stored on system.

Maybe you could post your thoughts on the mouse after you try it out. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Will do! But im not really very demanding on mice so i bet itll do just fine. Just as long as the mouse makes the cursor move like i move the mouse (aka no skipping when i move the mouse fast or junk like that) and track on various surface conditions... and stop tracking when i lift the mouse a bit... and are built properly.. and have a slippery bottom (no pun intended)... and are not crazy super sensitive or pig ugly slow... and dont have a gazillion buttons (thats what keyboards are for).... hmm, come to think of it i might me more demanding then i thought LOL. But size for example is NOT an issue for me, i have humongous hands (size 12 gloves) so i can finger-grip basically anything which luckily is my preferred mousing technique.

Well, its a bit late now for a full in depth review, but ive been using the mouse for a couple hours now and i like most of it! However, one thing in particular need getting used to (if ill ever get used to it that is); The side buttons. They are darned easy to press because they take very very little force to press and stick out a bit (both unlike my Roccat). When i grab the mouse like im used to with other mice i cant help but pressing a side button cuz my thumb is too thick to fit under the front left side-button (im a finger-grip guy). So i have to grip the mouse further back then i instinctively do, and when i do that theres no problem anymore with any of the buttons (i can still use the L&R and scroll perfectly fine when gripping further back). However this what bothers me is also a plus, because of the easy to press side-buttons im now actually able to use the ones on the right side of the mouse with my ring-finger. On my roccat i programmed those blank cuz i had to do finger-yoga to press em so i couldn't be bothered, on this one however i might end up doing the opposite; Blank out the left ones and just use the right one instead (which is actually better cuz ill still be able to hold the mouse with my pinky and thumb). Or i might mod the mouse to make the left ones stiffer.... cuz the rest is soooo nice

What i love about the Sensei;
-GREAT slippery feet! Really the smoothest mouse ive owned!
-Nice click-wheel, feels very solid with great tactile feedback and no chance ill accidentally scroll while i actually wanted to middle-click.
-Storing profiles on the mouse works like a charm! Software to set these profiles is easy to use (tho refuses to upload anything through my USB hub for some reason)!
-Loads of LEDS you can set all kinds of colors to, and you can upload a bitmap for each profile so very very shiny if you're into that kind of thing (you can also turn it all off ofc, making it a simple silver mouse)
-Crazy what you can set on this mouse... do i want 1872 or 1873 DPI!?! Omg what if one is much better than the other, ill have to try them ALL!
-The ability to swap between five profiles (and even change some settings inside the profiles on the fly) from the mouse itself is VERY neat!

Relative;
-Looong cable, i think its like 2m long or something. Nice braided with ferrite core and gold plated connector (LOL)
-Large mouse, not for finger-grippers with small hands.
-Doesnt come with a fancy mousepad or anything..... just a stupid sticker i already had (same that came with the 6gv2). Given the marketing around the whole 'store profiles on mouse for switching between computers while retaining setting' i would have loved some kind of bag or something.

Make sure you dont pay too much for it tho, i dont think its worth its full price. Only reason i bought one was cuz i could get it relatively cheap. Also keep an eye on the Xai, if you don't desperately need the fancy options the Sensai has its basically as good a mouse (if you dislike the shiny hip-kids look it might be even better).

How can you say that the Logitech G400 is over priced? It's cheaper than the Deathadder and it basicly is the same mouse, only a different shape.
Take a look at the Zowie AM or EC 1 or 2, they have much better sensors than the Kana and the Kinzu. The G400 also carries the same sensor as them, but with a higher LOD and a higher max tracking speed, due to Zowie's custom lens.
