Ducky Shine Keycaps
« on: Tue, 19 June 2012, 13:06:59 »
I got a new Cherry MX Blue - White LED Ducky Shine a few days ago, and I wanna do the "MarineKingPrime checker my keyboard" style. What would be the best keycaps to use that are good but also allow me to see the LED underneath, through the keycap.

You can still see the LED's through thin white ABS a little. The same goes for PBT, though if I recall correctly, it's not as visible through the PBT that I have.

So the basic answer is, if you want the legends (letters/numbers/whatnot) to shine just like they do now, you are SOL for a different set of keycaps.

Maybe see if you can get ahold of Race keycaps white set? Only aftermarket set in white I have seen with backlight keys. Set won't be 100% compatible, but all the letters would be useable. Also rumored Ducky will be releasing Shine in white body/keycaps sometime this summer.

So there are no mech keycaps that allow me to see the letters through the keycaps with LEDs? or perhaps I could use clear keycaps? Also, where can I buy ABS keycaps?

Qtan has semi-transparent keycaps.
Déck used to sell blanks, but there might be another option in the future.

QWERkeys can apparently do doubleshots with a translucent center, then do lasering for the legends. (Similar to what DECK does.)

Are there any pictures of what thin white ABS keycaps look like with LED under them?

Hmm, so bar RACE keycaps, my only option are to use Thin White ABS or Clear Keycaps? Because I have been unable to find those QWERkeys translucent doubleshots.

QWERkeys just came out with them, like 3 days ago. We are already looking into organizing a GB for them (as there seems to be a MOQ).

You could maybe get some Deck keycaps from someone, but there isn't a lot of options where backlit keyboards are concerned.

Well, I ain't in no rush. Not a fan of Deck font, so do you mind just popping a post here if you organise a Group Buy?

Well, I am working on my shinning keyboard too, colorful ABS cap is also a option. I can't do double shoot but it should be possible to do it as any standard colors

The regular white PBT keycaps won't let the lights go through. So far there's only ABS semi-clear keycaps would work with backlit keyboards. I think KBC/KBT would release some ABS backlit keycaps in the future.

So I should wait? The race keycaps on the 1st thread did nice backlight but there weren't enough to do the whole keyboard due to different sizes.

I too am interested in the checkerboard possibility on a Ducky Shine!

Let me know what you find.  I emailed Ducky about the possibility of a full white ABS with translucent center but have yet to hear anything back.

Does anyone know if the profile on the Race boards matches the profile of the Ducky boards offhand?
