HAHAHAHA

And if what I've read is correct you'll want to hit yourself over the head with the thing if you try to use the trackball...

That's the configuration that makes more sense to me than sticking it up in the right corner.

Seems like it's just a module they stick on top of a regular M.  Should be a easy hack.

The M5-2, it's just stuck on top of a normal Model M (with, of course, a modified controller PCB). The metal plate is modified to allow it to fit.

M5-1, it's possible the plastic piece that holds the hammers in place has the trackball molded into it with wiring run through the membrane (that'd be my guess for how they would do it but it does seem overkill).

A grey-label Lexmark... Interesting.

But yeah, $200 is stretching it a bit. A bit...

I saw some M5-1's on ebay last year. They aren't common, but they aren't worth 200 bucks either. Clickykeyboards sold them for about half the price.

I love how rarekeyboardstore is calling it a "steal" at $200. When the price gets that high, he's almost stealing your money.

I also checked the ID No. on my M5-2 and it turns out that it's the 1854th one made.

As far as I'm concerned, the only people whose money gets 'stolen' are those who buy loads of crap keyboards due to the low initial cost and end up buying more and more because they are never quite satisfied. I paid about €80 for my Model F, and €110 for my HHKB, but in terms of the service they've given me, I'd gladly have paid twice those amounts.

At the end of the day, life is short, and money is there to facilitate your enjoyment of it.

Microsoft Windows and Kishy once again broke the Prime Directive. If you're too cheap to buy a thing that is posted, stay out of the thread and shut the **** up, you utter wankers.

Did your mother ever teach you manners?

$200 is a rip-off for an M5-1. Clickykeyboards.com sold fully functional ones for about half the price. And they've much nicer and willing to help, with top-of-the-line customer support.

I think it would be best for you to add Kishy and MSW to your ignore list (and them to do the same for you).

They are hold buttons (you can, for example, position your pointer over the scrollbar and press the left click hold button and it will "lock" the mouse onto the scrollbar so you can scroll without holding a button).

In fairness, the only reason it needs it because it's so small. I have no issues dragging and dropping the old fashioned way with my KEM.

um webwit the link in your sig is rated r. so much keyboard porn...

unsure about the $200 keyboard simply because im more interested in investing in a topre, after i get my topre then id consider buckling springs, depending on how good buckling springs are TO ME then i will consider buying the keyboard at that price.

i believe if somebody really likes it and deems it valuable to one's self then go ahead..

Nice mod.  That took a brass pair to mod a Space Saver like that.

One could make a Model M5-1-2/M13 Industrial Mini.

Well, the stuff's all modular to a degree so it's got to be possible.

Use the PS/2 pass-through of an M13, it would be possible to rig up two trackballs. Call it the On-The-Ball Plus +.
