Hey i am new to the whole mechanical keyboard stuff, and currently i just bought an ALPS glidepoint with white non-clicky alps (for $3.95 at local goodwill unused in box) and now im addicted.

Anyways i just bought an IBM model M on ebay for $20 shipped. The part no. i cannot find anything about, but this is what is on the back of the keyboard


and the front is the silver label it looks like



can someone who knows more about IBM and model M's help me please

PS i figured WTH $20 is worth the gamble for the highly coveted model M, also the fact that there is no "made in " on the label is unusual from what i have seen.

ya thanks, i figured all that out after i posted this by going here http://www.clickeykeyboards.com/model-m-buyers-guide/ really helpful.

I have only bought 2 maybe 3 things off of ebay so i am sort of a noobie, so maybe you can help me with this. I saw what was in the item description and not the pics/header. If the item i receive is not what is in the description, but is the pics/header what do i protest? i am now all sorts of confused.

My personal opinion is that if the eBay seller didn't claim it would work as a PC keyboard, then it's not his fault you didn't do enough research and just assumed all Model M's were the same.  My recommendation would be to list it here in the classified section and/or on eBay and try to resell it.  You might be out some postage, but would be able to recoup some of your purchase.  Being you only paid $20 for it including shipping, I'd personally just hold onto it and maybe you'll have some use for the keycaps in the future.

C. the description clearly says it is something other than what the Title and pics are showing.

That listing does seem to imply, although doesn't outright say so, that it will work with a PC.  Says "Clicky keyboard AT, is an IBM Model M keyboard. The keyboard has been tested and works perfectly."  One has to wonder how it was tested.

ya who knows, maybe i should have just said nothing. waited to see what i received if it was a 1391401 then yay, but if it was the terminal board then owell i get a cool looking paperweight, and i still get to feel the buckling springs right?

hmm this is like an adventure, oh the internet. much rather have this happen on ebay rather than some classified section of a forum.

Probably best to contact the seller about the ambiguous listing, ask what it actually is.  Perhaps you could get out of the sale due to the misleading listing if it turns out to be a 1390572 rather than a 1391401.

that is what i am in the middle of right now. i will wait till tomorrow if he doesn't respond to me tonight.

also upon further inspection of the listing, under item specifics it says "fully operational" under condition and "PS/2" under interface, the item specifics are not usually copy paste are they?

Actually I'm not in Texas any more.  Well maybe my heart is.  I was born and raised near San Antonio then later lived in Austin.  My nickname on this forum is from the Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble album, who I saw multiple times at Auditorium Shores in Austin were the statue of him now stands, :sad:.

yupyup Texas is a pretty sweet place and i love the people who have these bumper stickers

i have 2 good friends from Pittsburgh and Upstate New York who now absolutely love Texas.

Being the buyer described the interface as "PS/2" and the product as "AT", I'd say in this case the buyer is at fault and should cancel the order if you want.  The buyer also says it was tested and works perfectly.  If the buyer did test it, then he'd know very well what the keyboard is and wouldn't have described it like he did.  A bad buyer who's less than honest in saying what the product is.  Still not a bad deal though if you like those M terminal boards.  Someday my guess is you won't be able to touch one for that kind of a price.

exactly i saw $20 ish total for an IBM keyboard, and didn't really bother to look at the pics. I just read the description. Afterward i looked closely to the pics and realized the pics and the header differentiated from the description. i will post an update of what happens. i now wish i would not have sent the seller any questions and just waited for a surprise.

everywhere he put "buyer" i think he meant "seller" i hope if not it makes no sense to me.

Heck I bought a Model F terminal keyboard 6110668 for around this price, so not the end of the world to buy a terminal board, just should know what you're getting into.
